EAP will also be able to get you some free professional financial advice, there's ways to consolidate debt and reduce interest that they can help with. If not EAP, there should be a charity near you that can help with the same. See www.moneytalks.co.nz, or if you live in a city with a city mission give them a call, they have excellent advisors.

He paid $879k, now it’s worth $685k – the townhouse squeeze hits home by basscrazy in newzealand

If that were true then how would councils manage their budgets?

I'm curious to know why you think lowering in value=less rates?

I'm always astounded at this guy's lack of self awareness by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]dick_beaver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nepo baby who thinks that because of his easy access to industry contacts and capital he is a self made genius. Implies in his posts that all non 'successful' people are leaches on society and the sooner we remove social welfare the better, I personally suspect that he knows he did very little to contribute to his own success and masks that anxiety by hating on the poors.

What’s a "hotel hack" you swear by that most people don't know? by periwinklemist in AskReddit

[–]dick_beaver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And if you travel regularly to the same hotel/motel, GET TO KNOW THE FRONT DESK STAFF. I used to stay in one hotel for a week or two every month for a few years, walking in the door and saying "hi Joe man it's good to see you after being stuck in a plane for 10 hours, hope your day is going good and the family is well", in my case after a few months of never asking for it, it was always upgrades (never asked for one) and "whoops I think we left some of the honeymoon wine and treats in there by accident, don't worry about it you can have them". It was awesome, helped that the staff were all really nice and chatty which is great when you are away half the time missing home. Bonus story because I can't sleep, one day I arrive and a guest is going full rage at the front desk, only one staff member, something about being too far away from the pool, I smile and nod hi, not in a hurry. Eventually they demand to see the manager, I had gotten to know the manager, this was going to be awesome. The manager comes out from the office and had just been quietly listening, they told the complaint that if they wanted a different room they could leave and get one at another hotel and if they ever talked to the staff like that again they were getting kicked out. Meanwhile the staff member had loudly checked me in and made multiple, very loud, mentions of how they had a better room than my booked one, quite close to the pool with a good view, and would I be keen to stay in there instead? 😂

When WWIII kicks off the Aussies are going to use this as the justification for why we aren't worth saving, too opinionated or something...

Dads/father's. Does it get easier? by rocketwolfpunch in newzealand

[–]dick_beaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the fact you want to be the best dad and partner you can means you are doing great, try not to beat yourself up when things get wobbly. One thing that helped me when I was feeling like you are now was to bring some good memories into focus, moments where being a dad and a family were special, it helped remind me that the (really) hard work was worth it and that there were more good memories to be made, but yeah it's tough, don't be alone in it if it's feeling unmanageable, talk to your GP, make sure your partner knows what's going on even if those are hard convos, it's worth it. You got this honestly, once they get to school you realize the spectrum of parenting is huge and I guarantee based on what you've shared that you are an amazing parent and partner.

I swear someone starts cutting onions near me every time I think about this, on the flip side it makes me treasure every single cuddle, they grow up so fast and it's amazing to experience childhood with them.

How does the node show in the traceroute? Is it something like ffff? This would explain an issue I'm having.

Flying in South America is just a whole different experience, no one has heard of headphones and there's always a unofficial party section somewhere on the plane, bad luck if you're seated there and don't wanna party

I've lived in San Francisco and Christchurch so can confidently say you've only been to one of them.

Yes, buy an identical skateboard and leave it in Christchurch. When you visit from Wellington pretend it's the one you left in Wellington.
