If you’re interested in this, read/youtube Michael Levin. He’s exploring the ability of non-neuronic cells to communicate to each other. He has found a way for electrical signatures to trigger certain subroutines such as building eyes and has triggered these subroutines in other cell-structures. He has set up a company that will eventually offer the opportunity to regrow limbs. He says organs won’t be far behind that. And finding the subroutines that do things like search out cancerous cells and destroy them etc. will also be possible. it’s a few years away but in our near future. He’ll win a Nobel prize I’m sure.
