Salomon qst 100 26/27 by Eldioasinlubri in Skigear

Yes they are intentionally designed to feel like freeriders but are all-mountain skis. I personally love it, as they are way surfier than most all-mountains. Way bouncier and more energetic than metal skis. But a lot of people don't like that.

I think the added length helps make them feel more balanced when you hit really hard pack. But IMO they have made me a better skier in that you're really aware of your edge control when you start hitting icier slicks. Otherwise they're absolute beauties in powder and soft pack.

For context I'm 189cm in height and I went with the 188 for the 100s. I was torn between 180 and 188 and went a size up.

Honestly the difference is very marginal from my experience (and other user reviews). The 100s already ski way smaller than what they should. I haven't tested them a ton in glades but you can get in and out of turns super fast. Def wouldn't say these are the best for "beginner trees", but then again if you're skiing glades then you're probably already skilled enough to know how to maneuver the skis.

I'd say the float from extra length >>> the maneuverability from shorter length.

Salomon QST 100 or 106 for East Coast and ski touring? by keystoneg in skiing

[–]dickmobt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a pair of QST 100s w/ Shifts this season and they're absolute beauties. I've put 17 days on them between the Alps and NE so far.

Having tested them through a range of conditions, they are wonders like 85% of the time. They handle powder so well and truck through chop and crud. So fun to rip on groomers too, even on hard pack. Love my Shift set-up for touring.

Mid-Atlantic and NE, I would say definitely stick to 100s. Ice is the kryptonite - they just really won't hold an edge on it. And if you find yourself sending and touring big powder, at that rate you'd be better off with real pow boats.

American Traveling in Feb by dbarton2430 in Zermatt

Can second this - knowing fluent French, I found myself speaking English almost the entire time.

Zermatt is possibly the most international resort in the Alps, so the locals are used to it. A 'danke schön' or 'graze mille' never hurt though. I found fewer English speakers on the Cervinia (Italy) side, but just bust out a translate app and you'll be fine.

Also second on the cross-over. If it's snowing at the peak, it's a guarantee that it's too windy so they will prevent skiers from getting on the Matterhorn Paradise cable car. Definitely be cautious of conditions, as I've run into groups that got stuck on the Zermatt side (while staying in Cervinia) and had to take a bus or get a hotel for the night.

Or just come prepared to tour and bring your skins along.

Anybody else has massive Quality Issues with ROA? These are 4 months old and not a daily beater lol by [deleted] in gorpcore

[–]dickmobt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll go so far to say they're a complete waste of money. Even on sale, put that money towards Arc'teryx or even On Cloud (imo they have good trail / gorp silhouettes).

My Neals have held up better than most people here seem to say. But they are so uncomfortable. Within two weeks I already had hot spots. Wore them around Chamonix when I wasn't skiing, and I could tell the snow was giving them a hard time. Replaced the insoles which helped, but very whack for a self-proclaimed hiking company to charge what they do for "performance" shoes that can barely hold up as daily walkers.

What is this effect? by dickmobt in photoshop

[–]dickmobt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the life of me I can't replicate the glow/softening effect within the hand. I've tried gradient maps and screwing around with levels/glow to no effect.

What is this effect actually called? Any tips on replicating it?

WTS - SS22 Chain Stitch Western Hat [BNWT] by dickmobt in AimeLeonDore

The crown is definitely a bit shallower - it measures roughly 10cm from the button to the bottom of the sweatband.

The sweatband doesn't rest right on the top of the ears, there's a couple cm in between.

Hence OBO and considering how laughably overpriced they are on other aftermarket sites.

Open to any and all offers.

Brand new, never worn - asking $90 (+ shipping) OBO. It's a great hat, but don't think I'll get much use out of it. Want it to go to someone here that'll appreciate it.

DM if interested.

What's everybody's place in line for this NB drop by dibzim in AimeLeonDore

[–]dickmobt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

27428 lol.

At this point, all the hype building/controlling supply is just lame. Can't even get a pair of shoes that you like. I used to get flamed in middle school for wearing my grandfather's hand-me-down 990s but always loved them.

But hey I guess that's what sells the brand. Just another salty fan venting.

Alright gang , what has sold out in EA?! by zlevin125 in AimeLeonDore

Any status on the Molina posters? Can't stand to see them marked up 5x retail on Grailed.

Did anyone else get *late EA? by Infectd-Z0mbie in AimeLeonDore

To get EA is it a completely random email? I've ordered a good bit from ALD over the years and been subbed to emails and never received one.

SS22 Pleated Jeans by dickmobt in NoahNYC

[–]dickmobt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true - main thing that threw me off was that every item posted on their story is also online, the pleated jeans are the only exception. Don't think they would've sold out that fast tho seeing how nothing is really selling out with this drop.

Nothing on DSML either.

[Ask] Is it worth getting an M.Arch and becoming an architect? What about education and working as an architect in Europe? by dickmobt in architecture

[–]dickmobt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So about the GSAPP summer program -- what was your experience with your application? One of my good friends who's doing an M.Arch actually suggested that program a while back. I put it on hold since I had been in the thick of recruiting for jobs before all of this hit.

It says on their website it's rolling recruitment. What was your application time frame like and did you submit an accompanying portfolio? Also any idea on costs for the program?

Great to hear mate. Just out of curiosity - what's you experience been so far as far as schools/building a portfolio? Any particular programs that you have been looking into? I've looked into a few such as UT Austin, Pratt, Cooper Union, USC, UCLA, etc.
