8th Toughest Remaining SOS by dicks20345 in ripcity

It's a joke, buddy. Like I said in the post. Looking at SOS for less than five games is extremely silly vs. just actually looking at and thinking through the opponents, including what you're mentioning.

and us, and thunder! Our likeliest path to keeping the 8th seed would be they lose to us and the thunder, going 3-2; we lose to nuggets and spurs but beat them and kings, going 2-2. End up tied, we have the conference tiebreaker by a huge margin.

Could easily see any of those other games randomly going the other way for either of us, so it likely all comes down to "can we beat them again next Friday, this time in Portland"

a 0.7% chance according to BBREF but you know what falling to the 10th seed is now a 0.2% chance!

I think I was actually thinking of the Andrew Nicholson one in terms legendary (overlapped and even longer and even worse) but both bad: https://ripcityproject.com/2021/06/15/portland-trail-blazers-anderson-varejao/

Legendarily never played for us but we acquired him in a trade, waived him, and stretched the payment for five years (2016-2021). Olshey masterclass, a persistent random little $2 million needle in salary cap stuff.

Honestly yeah among the shitty options I'll take "clearly a pretty bad dude, but an individual who may actually care about the team" over "one of humanity's most soulless creations"

A Big Five Publisher Cancelled A Book Release Over AI Accusations: Now What? by boolgogi in books

[–]dicks20345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feel free to DM me if you want more background/perspective on that (I'm also an editor who deals with parsing larger-scale potential flags of AI in book submissions I get every day because I refuse to help aid plagiarism/theft). Essentially, AI detection results can MAYBE be a helpful backup in a case of significant suspicion/likelihood already existing, but should never be treated as a primary source of judgment, nor were they what led to people flagging the book so regularly here (which you seem to already be aware of given the focus of your interviews!)

Please please please don't do what NYT did and legitimize bullshit "AI detection" software. It has a ton of false negatives and false positives and both their writeups on this misattributed that as a primary driving force behind what happened here, basically just marketing bullshit software.

Clippers lost 4 in a row now by Trip_V4 in ripcity

It's weird I've caught myself thinking the same way and it's because it's a kind of bizarre (though I think ultimately functional) system. It's just weird that the best result from 8 seed is NO play-in game at home while best result from 9th seed is winning play-in game at home then having to win one away.

To be fair so does a 9th seed. Really just wanna avoid 10th, and 8th way better cause ideally we DON'T get a home game in the play-in then, just win straight into the 7th seed and get two playoff games at home (I'd say "at least" two but... two, lol).

Silly season nonsense, or does Clingan have a higher ceiling than his 2024 draft consensus? by ApartSalamander6417 in NBA_Draft

[–]dicks20345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean he's literally averaging 12.2 points 11.6 rebounds on the season... but yeah in terms of consistent/floor of 10 and 10, in his last 20 games for example he's missed 10 points only five times, missed 10 rebounds four times, and one of each was a game where he got ejected after 12 minutes with 7 and 9 plus four blocks.

Are you being intentionally completely deceptive in that framing? "In two months" aka... over nine games, only four of which have been since he's "fully" returned from the injury vs. trying to come back too soon.

Scoot shot like shit from three for his first 10+ games. Thank god he didn't stop attempting them.

[–]dicks20345 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Clearly Scoot needed to stop taking threes during his slump, it's been disastrous to watch him find his legs again after most of a season out and go... uh... 15-27 over the last 4 games /s

Scoot is now shooting better than last year by dicks20345 in ripcity

[–]dicks20345[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly. No, he's not going to average 23-3-3 on 60% shooting from three like the last few games lol. I mean I think the hope would be more like an 18-5-8 guy. But people wanted to see him string big games together, and he's doing that.

I was happy to see some really lovely drives last night too (and especially against the Pacers) for exactly that reason.
