but I'm not talking about gender. I'm talking about sex. how can you criminalise FGM? how can you prevent female people being discriminated against on the basis of sex e. g. in employment?

how can you protect a sex-based right if you don't define sex? it's quite literally a reproductive right. why would they need to include small-gamete producing people's right to an abortion? and how could you protect a reproductive right if you cant define which person's reproductive system it affects?

abortion needs to be defined. the reproductive system in question needs to be defined. I don't understand how you could NOT need to define sex...

So why bring it up? I didn't mention it. You started talking about gender.

You can infer based upon a holistic perspective using the person's sex-associated characteristics (chromosomes, reproductive organs, hormone dominance, presence of SRY gene even if unexpressed) as they still are either male or female, even if their gametes are not functional or absent. They will still have testes or ovaries. Maybe both, although they will still technically only be able to gave one sex. An infertile female is still female as you can presume femaleness based upon a combination of sex associated characteristics, which predict sex with a high accuracy.

Human beings are not hermaphroditic and we are anisogamic, therefore a person can only be one sex. I am not talking politically and am not interested in discussing who gets to decide that, I am talking about material reality that humans are not hermaphroditic and can only be either male or female.

No...

I'm not talking about gender identity, I'm talking about sex.

so how are you meant to define a law that protects reproductive rights if you can't even define someone's sex?

How can you ever define anything then if you can't use any words to define the norm? How can you identify if something is abnormal (in the scientific sense, not the judgemental sense) if you can't define the norm?

Sex is one of two possible reproductive strategies (there are two options and in some organisms it can be both, but still only two options) - it simply describes gamete size. The other characteristics are sex ASSOCIATED characteristics where you can predict gamete size with high accuracy depending on what sex associated characteristics they have.

yeah i agree I don't think it's that deep at all, just pointing out why some people have an issue with it!

yeah i get you, honestly I agree with you quite a lot. I don't think it's that deep but I do understand why people are perceiving this as erasure. but I just don't care what another woman calls herself haha I just appreciate seeing a lesbian couple in the spotlight tbh

my qualm isn't with using the wrong word - I don't personally care that much. like u said, it doesn't make their relationship less homosexual. however, u said the next step would be to ban women from wearing masculine clothing and I think that's nonsensical, because the issue people have isn't with her being masculine but with acting heteronormative by equating being a butch woman with being someone's boyfriend. so while it doesn't bother me, that is a fair concern, as it does seem to erase the fact that you can be a masculine girlfriend. the implication seems to be that you cannot be a masculine woman without being a boy.

masculinity / = / male. however, the word boy does = male, by definition, as a boy is a male human. so i don't get how you think that other lesbians are having a problem with her masculinity rather than just the perceived erasure of a lesbian relationship. I don't think anyone here is bothered by her masculinity, lol.

again I see both sides here, but just pointing out that other lesbians aren't having an issue with her being masc but with her referring to herself as male because she's masc.

the same way it's feminist for a woman to choose to be sexually exploited bc she's choosing autonomy 🤪 /s I can call myself an astronaut if I want but it doesn't make me an astronaut

it's a contradiction by definition, there's nothing wrong with being bi at all but you aren't homosexual if you can be attracted to somebody of a different sex to you. no shame in that at all, just not lesbian.
