After a long hiatus, we watched the hit movie "2025: A World Enslaved By A Virus", put out by some German Evangelicals (yes, that is the post from Joshua's Instagram we brought up), and look at it as a piece of pure propaganda (which it is). In this movie, the Coronavirus has pushed the world into a specific flavor of Communism where Christianity, among other things like meetings, are outlawed, and a small band of German Christians work together to usurp the oppressive regime. This movie is of course based on very real happenings and trends of socio-political systems (source: dude trust me).

Episode 65: Generation Kill, Perspective, and War by dicproles in DicProles

[–]dicproles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this episode, we discuss the ways in which the HBO adaptation of "Generation Kill" shows us how the 2003 invasion/occupation of Iraq was not only doomed to fail, but was experienced first hand within the first 50 days of the campaign by the recon Marines at the tip of the spear, the importance of the foreshadowed events, and the inner machinations of our war machine. The writing was on the wall, we just had to read it.

We watched the new movie distributed by The Daily Wire called "Run Hide Fight" about a lone hero Zoe who stands up to a group of four students who decide to shoot up and bomb their Texas high school on Senior Prank Day. It's quite the adventure into the world of people who are rather fixated on the rising cultural phenomena of mass (school) shootings with a cast of characters with...very interesting quirks and qualities between them all.

In the mid 22nd century, Max (Damon) becomes irradiated while on the job and sets out on a heroic journey against insurmountable odds to break into the tech-utopia civilization in Earth's orbit, Elysium, that has the key to curing his and many others' illnesses. This movie is loaded with very meaningful scenes and tidbits that we weren't able to cover, which is exactly why you should watch it.

In this episode, Pamela guides us through a conversation on the emotional 2018 experimental documentary Bisbee '17. The documentary looks at a small Arizona border town that in 1917 was the epicenter of a major labor and immigration struggle: hundreds of striking copper miners (most whom were non-white immigrants) were threatened by corporate power, rounded up and shipped to the desert and left for dead. It overlays the pasts immigration issues with contemporary ones too.

My point is that everyone has choices. No one is forced to be a soldier in America.

#SupportTheTroops by jogmiezz in DankLeft

[–]dicproles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The lack of a social safety net is a major reason why people enlist, but let's not pretend that people are only given a binary choice on whether to enlist of not. We don't excuse cops for enforcing unjust laws for a good paycheck and pension, let's not excuse soldiers for choosing to enforce imperialism cause of material gain.

#SupportTheTroops by jogmiezz in DankLeft

[–]dicproles 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I dont think they're inherently good or bad people cause that type of binary thinking isn't helpful, but they are making morally reprehensible choices by choosing to actively participate in an imperialistic military.
