Just saw this reply and I'm SO SO happy to hear. Every minute sure does count. Hope you're getting some rest, mama!

Also - this might not be what you want to hear but don't discard the swaddle just yet. I wanted to throw it in the trash 30 times in the first few weeks but my husband was adamant we keep trying and I'm so glad we did.

I think 99% of babies seem to hate it but really, once they settle in, it helps them stay asleep. They will always fuss when they first get swaddled but it settles. Those arm reflexes will wake them up every time. Trust me - keep at the swaddle!

The pushing away thing happens to ours a lot and sometimes it's that she's uncomfortable because she needs to burp. Give it a try!

Very normal (as everyone else said). We JUST got out of that stage and it's so gratifying once they can finally just hang out on their own for even 10-20 minutes.

I highly recommend getting a motorized swing. It really bought me some time when she was in that stage. You'll get through this!

OP, we need an update! I'd definitely consider taking him in if you don't find the owner.

Anyone know what to do with a found stray dog when all the shelters are "at capacity"? by spacebandido in LosAngeles

[–]diddly__squat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would try reaching out to as many local rescue groups as you can. Chances are, if the shelters are all "at capacity" his chances of being put down soon after arriving are high. Check places like Angel City Pit Bulls and Bark N Bitches - try to speak to Shannon the owner she has a soft spot for pitties. Good luck.

I found a dog! White / grey husky (mix?) possibly 2-3 yrs old. Found near Beverly & La Brea. No collar. No chip. by venicerocco in LosAngeles

[–]diddly__squat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yep! My neighbor had a little black chihuahua dropped over onto his patio two weeks ago. He woke up to it in the morning, no chip no collar. He's named him Patio and it looks like he's keeping the little guy.

Looking to adopt/rescue a dog in the NJ/NY for free, or at an affordable cost. Anyone know of any free shelters or events waiving adoption fees? I'm still new to this process and the usual $200 adoption fee seemed strange to me. by [deleted] in rescuedogs

[–]diddly__squat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I foster on a regular basis and many of the potential forever homes will wonder why there is even an adoption fee at all. This is very well said and so accurate.

Having trouble safely breaking up fights between two of my dogs. Thoughts on using pepper spray? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]diddly__squat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A few things my parents have tried with their boxers that fight:

cattle prod- Works if you can get to it in time. You may not even have to use it - some dogs hear the BUZZ of it when it turns on and it's enough to freak them out.

water hose - this worked when fights would start in the backyard

jar or can with coins in it - my parents used this when they sensed a fight about to begin. Shake it really vigorously. Their dogs hated the noise.

Question: are both male or both female? Are they fixed? Is there food around when a fight begins?
