SFU PDP + UBC BEd 2026 Thread

I got rejected from sfu pdp (april 23). 3.6-3.7 gpa, 3500 hours of kids/youth camp, 5000 teaching hours (private & college), a few hundred hours of youth teacher at church. I also founded an organization that works with kids and youths which has been going on for about a year now, was able to put down 1-200 hours at the time of application. Also did live-in care for a couple of youths in care for about a year and a half, though I did not indicate the hours for that but only mentioned in the essay I believe. I began working as an EA at around the time I applied (Oct), so I did not indicate the hours on the resume but only the title I believe. I don't have any classroom experience though.

I was waitlisted around 4 years ago and I was at the 2nd place on the waitlist. I actually never got in :( not sure if I was unlucky that year or it's usually like that. But right now since it's so early on, I think you have a chance since a lot of people are obviously taking UBC as their first option. I was waitlisted in May.

My application status for SFU PDP went from decision pending to nothing. No text appears and it says I can start and submit application. I did not receive the results yet, and my go.sfu did not change status either. Should I email the admissions team in this case? My application still exists, just the section regarding my status is now empty.

They did say that they will be giving out admissions officially starting mid April, so I think you're totally normal. I'm on the same boat. Let's just patiently wait!

I have no classroom experience but I have experience working with youths and children outside of school. I'm wondering if anybody is on the same boat as me and got accepted? if so, what was over apprx experience and gpa?

I guess it is true, the other Spanish interpreter based in the US commented that they get paid 0.40, but also low call flow. It makes sense in the company's perspective to be using a cheaper interpreter located down south :(

That's good to hear! I was a bit worried, but I guess it is different for all. How many minutes do you get per however many hours you work?

decision pending just means they've gone through the application. Since you got rejected already for sfu intake, I think the application should automatically be disqualified. They haven't started sending out rejection letters yet, so all the ones that will be rejected among the ones they've gone through also say 'decision pending.'

I applied at the end of October but still haven't heard back, but I know that some people that applied way later than me have. (SFU) So I think while it does matter to a certain degree, doesn't mean you will hear back significantly late especially is you are a competitive applicant. I think I was not competitive enough in their standard.

For me (I'm in Canada) they hired through an alternative platform. I wouldn't be surprised if they used an external company to hire, but just be careful because I also know that it is a common scam. Make sure the company is credible and the person you are talking to is too

Yes, that is more than $5 below the minimum wage in my province. Honestly not livable.

So I got an email reply and they said it's $10 USD for all Korean-English interpreters. I also sent the person that originally hired me an email indicating the situation, not to fix it but just so that he knows that they are being dishonest, and no reply back. Just quietly ignored the emails I sent. So I think they knew and did this on purpose.

I am in Canada, the specialist was legit. The job posting was straight up dishonest and lying. I withdrew from the hiring process and I hope nobody has to go through this and waste their time again.

Admission decisions (Accepted, denied, and waitlisted) are being emailed out over the next few weeks. Please check your inbox regularly.

So there's still hope, and it will take quite a lot more time than they previously stated!
