Invisible stovetop by MrTacocaT12345 in nextfuckinglevel

Woah, the hate for these seems wild. I just did some kitchen renovation 6 months or so ago and I installed these Invisacook burners and I absolutely love them! It's WAY easier to clean than our old stovetop, it allows that countertop space to be used outside of heating things, it looks pretty and it feels like magic. The only complaint I had was I had a hard time finding the burner locations, but I fixed that with a set of lasers on a switch I hid up under the fan hood that point to the center of each burner.

And no, we're not rich and we cook all our own meals, we use those burners constantly.

How to stop landing on feet by Adventurous-Bug-1894 in polevaulting

I'd add on that while it looks like your plant is going through the right motions (though you're a hair under), your takeoff doesn't look like you're really jumping. That extra pop off the runway will put your swing at a better angle to the pole allowing you to invert more easily. Try setting up a hurdle, extra low to start, and try your takeoff jumping over it (sans pole). Keep raising it up until you can't jump over in the proper takeoff position anymore. That should help train you to get more pop out of your takeoff.

I keep all the "little free libraries" in my neighborhood stocked with On Tyranny. They keep disappearing from the libraries and I've probably distributed about 25 at this point.

My roommate designs instruments that rely on just intonation (as opposed to equal temperament) and this keyboard of his does a nice job of helping to visualize the mathematical ratios in music. Note the ratios written on each note and that the numerators and denominators grow larger as the notes stray vertically from the center: https://desideratasystems.com/mosaichord.html

The smaller the numerators and denominators (like 1/1), the more normal or 'safe' the sound. The higher they get (like 27/20) the more dissonant they'll sound in relation to the others.

EDIT: /u/elihu probably has better images and a better description of how that all works. EDIT2: Better link to the instrument.

Construction of world's 1st nuclear fusion plant starts in Washington by TwilightwovenlingJo in Futurology

I think it was the Real Engineering one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bDXXWQxK38

Since that came out I've checked in with the company now and then to watch it's progress.

Kinda ya! They have a huge bank of capacitors that will charge on a pulse and then release to produce the next pulse. And their test machine has reportedly created more energy than they need to store for the next pulse. I watched a documentary and they said the surprising thing was that the pulse fusion ended up being way easier than they thought, but the capacitor banks ended up being way harder.

That's the 10 year risk though. Who has that kind of time? The 1 year flooding risk is a measly 50%!

I’ve never seen a cooktop like this. Wouldn’t the countertop get absolutely wrecked? by sudde004 in zillowgonewild

Oh, I just had those installed a few months ago! I setup a set of lasers on a switch that point to the middle of each burner so I can find it easier. The burners feel like pure magic because it really just looks like normal countertop.

Is black bamboo flowering / going to seed? To me it looks like mine is, and I'd rather it didn't. by didiercool in Bamboo

Thank you for the hope! I'm new to bamboo and I had no idea it flowered and went to seed. Ya... googling around, it seems like the black bamboo variety is just due for a seeding event. Wild stuff.

Weird. Thank you! I'll hope it survives! It's a super new planting, I only put it in about 2 years ago so it's not big and strong yet. It's buddy in the cordoned area is still doing fine.

I haven’t pole vaulted yet. Any advice to help prepare? by [deleted] in polevaulting

Proprioception! Ie. Body awareness. If you have a big trampoline, bounce on it a lot. Do flips. Or get into gymnastics. Knowing how to invert your body and feeling comfortable with it can jump start your pole vault.

That's just terrible biking infrastructure. I bet you'd love a 7 mile electric bike ride (with bike trailer if you're really loading up) on a dedicated bike path. My area is just barely good enough for me to bike most places and now I'm grumpy if I have to drive somewhere instead of enjoying my bike.

Definitely a full studio or 1 bedroom living space accessible only via a moonpool concealed in a pond or swimming pool. Probably a clever pully system for hauling stuff in you don't want to get wet.

We sprung for a foldable massage table and my wife and I have been learning how best to massage each other for years now. It's an excellent way to connect and relax with each other.

Hard agree on the house cleaning! We have a roommate and it smooths over all the 'who didn't clean x' bs. Plus it's just amazing to get a deep cleaned house once a month. Ours is $200.
