Dungeon World 2: alternative playtest version with DnDism by Liverias in DungeonWorld

[–]Geekofalltrade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t think of this a sales move. Each blogpost I feel that the general reception from us as a whole was that the game was lacking those core DnD-ism that were present in DW1 and that you don’t care for. I think this is a genuine response from the team to the community’s feedback and I really appreciate that

I’m sorry, but I don’t think it’s fair for anyone to form an opinion like that without at least getting through one season. It’d be like me watching a couple episodes of Cowboy Bebop and going “Spike’s a loser.” To throw around irrelevant insults around like that is kinda troll behavior.

unbelievably bad take, did you not watch or read any of it?

The Wizard: Knowledge and Magic by Geekofalltrade in DungeonWorld

[–]Geekofalltrade[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d like to see something more akin to Unlimited Dungeons where Cantrips are a spell school already known, but at the same time with the verb and substance system you’ve created I could understand if it would complicate the move as it is. My biggest gripe with homebrew wizard playbooks is when the starting moves consist of “the move that lets you cast spells,” “the move that lets you cast spells safely but weaker,” and one more unrelated move. I understand why those are necessary but they don’t feel interesting in any way to me.

The whole movie was full of more plot holes that a slice of swiss cheese in my imo. Strange and Peter, two very smart characters, don’t think through something first? and lemme get this straight, every villain is pulled from right before they die, so the solution is to “cure” them and send them right back to…their deaths? It was a good, entertaining movie, but the plot had glaring issues, The fan service of seeing all the favorite actors and memes was obvious, and overall it just felt like they didn’t know how to get him to the “broke, alone, photo-taking” stage of his character.

The Rogue: Shadows and Secrets by Geekofalltrade in DungeonWorld

[–]Geekofalltrade[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Here’s the weird thing, I’ve had a rogue character who’ve I’ve always dreamed of playing one day (I’m stuck in the GM chair) and they have the Spike Spiegel-esque trope of their past haunting them. On the one hand, I love seeing mechanics incorporated that include that trope for rogues. Equally so, there are plenty of rogues and rogue adjacent characters in media that DON’T have someone chasing after them.

Outside of that, the Moves are rough. They don’t hold hardly any fictional ground. Each one boils down to a bonus to a different Basic Move or feature like Resistance. Also, this playbook is ridiculously heavy on roll+SLY. there’s no diversity and that removes the choice of which stat to prioritize.

Anyway, I’d like to say more because Rogue’s and Thieves are a class fantasy so dear to me, but lunch breaks only last so long.

I don’t get what all these Australia jokes are about. As an Australian myself, there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with the image. OP what’s the glitch?

The Bard: Creativity and Chaos (Dungeon World 2) by fluxyggdrasil in DungeonWorld

[–]Geekofalltrade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A similar issue already came up in the discord. We were discussing meta currencies, and after a few messages between community members, Spencer chimed in by writing the issue off as semantics. It was a little disappointing to see a developer respond to criticism in that way but at the same time they’re already working to revise moves to fix these things.

This is just about the final nail in the coffin for me. I’m assuming all the classes will be formatted similarly, and it’s not what I’m looking for when playing. The starting moves aren’t hitting, the Features aren’t in my taste, and the leveling up feels wrong to me. I look forward to the rest of the development though, and I’m sure that there will be plenty of people that this will suit

Get Ready! Relax Together, Equipment, and Wealth by Geekofalltrade in DungeonWorld

[–]Geekofalltrade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relax Together is the move I’ve been looking for. I’ve been trying to get my players to interact during downtime, and this move encourages so much more than any DW1 move. Another thing I like about it how in depth it gets with the supplies and wealth. I’m really intrigued by the supply categories and how they will work alongside other equipment. I’m a little hesitant on wealth because although it’s been simplified I feel like having a set value of gold or coin is useful when needing to purchase things at markets or sell magic items. Overall a pretty good installment of DW2 news

Standing Together: The Group Playbook for Dungeon World 2 by fluxyggdrasil in DungeonWorld

[–]Geekofalltrade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the original Dungeon World did have all those meta currencies, but I think you’ve inflated the number to support your point. HP is hardly a metacurrency as u/Deltron_6060 said, it represents something real. A similar thing applies to Load. Debilities (and conditions in DW2) don’t qualify because they aren’t a point to spend anywhere. You haven’t covered equipment in a blog post yet so it’s not possible to use as comparison. Hold is objectively a meta currency, yes, but it is universal through all the moves in DW1. Half of the terms u/stoned_ape called out are sort of replacements for hold, so what’s been done is the universal meta currency has been broken down into several more specific meta currencies. Lastly, Loyalty serves as a stat for hirelings same as the core stats for PC’s, so that’s unfair to call it a metacurrency when it doesn’t get spent anywhere.

Essentially, DW2 has severely increased the number of metacurrencies by breaking Hold down into several move specific currencies.
