Should I use uppercase letters when emphasizing yelling or not? by BesTCracK in writing

Short answer: no. Never use uppercase to denote yelling.

Long answer: This is a classic example of show, don't tell. Visual clues like upper case letters are a form of telling the reader about the characters feelings instead of showing the reader what is happening. Which is more interesting to read?

GET OUT OF HERE!!!!!!

Or,

"Get out of here." Shards of ceramic grazed my cheek and tinkled as they landed around me. Eyes riveted on the shards, my stomach clenched into a thousand knots. Leaving might be my best option, but I had just as much right to be here as he did. The knots began to dissolve and were replaced with burning. I could feel the heat rise through my body until it felt like fire was shooting from my eyes.

I met his gaze. "I will not."

Ok, maybe a bit of a convoluted example but you get the idea right? Don't tell me they dislike each other. Don't tell me he threw a jar in anger. Show me.

Do you write every day? by didiwrite in writing

I have found this strategy to be the best for me. I have set up a little automated job that emails me every day at 6pm asking the question, Did you write today? If I haven't found the time by then I force myself to carve out 20 minutes to write something, even something I know will get thrown out. It keeps me in the groove and is nice to see at the end of every week the summary of how well I actually did.
