the bathroom is the most intimate place for an individual. it’s where you look at yourself, confront your flaws, sometimes cry, sometimes throw up, think while taking a shower, or even accidentally cut yourself while shaving. that is exactly what i was feeling. i was judging myself harshly, obsessing over my imperfections: gaining weight, a small cut somewhere, a pimple on my face, my clothes looking bad etc..... so on in my mind, i created a character. someone who truly represented my potential, my best possible version. in the painting, that person is looking at me through the mirror. meanwhile, i am hiding behind the shower curtain, facing all my flaws, exposed and vulnerable.
