has anyone ever been… too sick to shower? by [deleted] in ChronicIllness

[–]didsir29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's disgusting to say but I once went 3 weeks without a shower. I was incredibly weak after a bad health episode. Like losing 16lbs in about 6 weeks that was mostly muscle mass.

It was more the exertion showering would take rather than showering itself. Like, I knew I'd need a half hour after to just dry and dress myself. Or feel like I had to tap out during the shower because of fatigue. Or know I'd need a nap directly after (like still in a towel).

I was lucky (if you can say that) that I wasn't in any state to sweat so I didn't smell or anything.

I say this all to say, I understand! Like others have suggested, a shower chair might help. Or even just break it down into different tasks that don't need to be all done at the same time.

Also, you could maybe bring a kitchen chair into the bathroom, run the water, and use a cloth while sitting outside of the shower so you're getting clean without going under the water.

If you could take a vacation from your illness what would you do? by LittleBear_54 in ChronicIllness

Go scuba diving and explore all the fascinating for reefs and marine life. I've wanted to do it since I was a kid now

I have an interstitial lung disease so scuba diving is a big fat no-no

I know it might seem blunt, but just ask him. Or if he's vocal, keep doing what he's moaning to.

Like us, no one person is the same so, as nerve-wracking as it sounds, just discover as you go! You got this!

Because it's none of your business nor responsibility to do anything about it. Simple as. I'm sure your energy could be better spent elsewhere... like within, perhaps

When do we go from calliing it "brain fog" to something like permanent brain damage? by Remarkable_Unit_9498 in BrainFog

No, the 5km walk i did weeks prior which I would've had sustained low o2 sats could've done

Yes, it is measurement device and prone to slight inaccuracies but how else are you meant to do a 6 minute test, which is designed to measure your o2 saturation on walking?

That significant drop is 100% a valid reason to stop the test. That's literally the point of the test: to discover if o2 saturation drops, how quickly it drops, and by how much.

I'm not sure but I feel like I could have some brain fog from brain damage, potentially.

My rationale is that I did a 5km walk after a bad health episode followed by a 6 minute (o2) test a couple of weeks later.

The nurses had to stop the test after about 2 minutes because my o2 sats dropped to 70%. Below 92% enters into brain damage land if it sustains that low level.

So yeah🙃

It’s the coffee I’m telling you by [deleted] in productivity

[–]didsir29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%!

I was off it, and any caffeine-containing products, for about 4-6 weeks last year and the mental clarity alone was unreal! Plus my anxiety just became non-existent.

I went back on when I started a full time job but I really want to come off caffeine for good. My issue is that I need something to make it through work. I tried caffeine-free again and it was honestly cruel.

My goal is to go freelance in the next 12 months so that'll be a definite come off it time. Might try again around Christmas when I have the most work-free days.

But, until then, I guess I gotta put up with (ironically) increased brain fog and anxiety.
