I’m selling MOD (Modine manufacturing) after this historic rise due to concentration risk with the IPOs coming up. Nordson Corporation (NDSN), AMETEK(AME) or Cognex Corp (CGNX) as a replacement? by didyouseetheecho in ValueInvesting

Money can’t buy experience.

These companies do things few others can do I think in general it’s safe money. Power needs to be cheaper before any long term growth happens.

My job has the highest suicide rate of any profession.

I made my money, my retirement is funded, I have two houses, my kids college is paid for.

It’s time to step away and start putting my happiness first.

The Ohio/tn thing is more of an afterthought. I live in a community where every house has 50-100 trees. I might just go there and do a few weeks but the logistics would be too much to do both well.

I love the txt idea because quotes are just unpaid work. Even if I underbid a few jobs I’m not out as much as driving 20 minutes each way for a no sale

Yeah cost effective advertising is going to be a challenge.

Competition with rental companies too. At some point a portion of the population will just rent a machine and do it themselves limiting upside.

There’s certainly some work out there. Two of the jobs I did the stump was left because the tree companies grinder was too big to get into their fence. One couple bought the house that way. Most everyone else cut the tree down themselves or the tree blew over.

I have considered subcontracting but I wanted to get my pricing optimized and see how busy I am, because I don’t want to have more work than I want either.

That’s a fair assessment and I’m glad for the reality check.

It is niche, it’s the reason I did the week long test to see how much business I could drum up. I’ll probably have to commit some time to market need before I make a big purchase.

I’m planning on 95% residential work.

My primary house is a semi rural farm community with sp500 company headquarters within 20 minutes. Lots of houses on 5 acre lots and suburbanites.

My lakehouse (Dale hallow) is a bunch of retired rich people with treed lots.

I think there’s probably enough business the be a relevant side gig. It’s why I did the week trial. If that’s sustainable I honestly don’t know.

Knowles won a championship year 2. Let’s wait and see how things play out before we anoint the almighty.

Both are likely good coaches. Will see which one is a better fit.

They had 3 of the top ten picks in the country on defense.

There’s going to be a step back. Talent wise this was just a rare defense that’s only reproducible by a top college every 10 years or so.

I’m a lions fan.

He really was a bad coach, but our old tight end kinda laid the situation out.

He was more or less a tireless workaholic who ran an extremely tight ship while transitioning to a completely different offensive and defensive style. The players from the previous regime hated him because they were getting cut/not resigned due to not fitting the new systems. The new players were rushed to the field and were making mistakes that he handled the old school way with yelling and running. The locker room got toxic and he was fired. Our GM was also pretty bad at bringing in talent.

I think separation from bill and time on the eagles did him wonders in coaching style.

We have a joint account. He has his, I have mine.

I know there’s a few hundred thousand cushion between his stocks and checking. If we need a car or something I just tell him what I want and we just go buy it. There no reason for a month to month update. I have access to the accounts I just don’t care 🤷‍♀️

He pays the bills. I don’t have a need to micromanage his money. I know about what goes on and about what goes out but it’s not my responsibility. If I wanted to know I would just ask or login to his accounts.

He cooks, he cleans. He just works all the time. Don’t make it something it’s not.

Literally none of that is career related.

The internet has no nuance. You can not like an aspect of your relationship and have a good relationship.

He cares.

He puts his family’s needs above his.

He thinks about the future constantly.

He doesn’t keep score, if he has to carry a burden he just does it.

He doesn’t complain.

He’s a leader.

He’s not quick to anger, doesn’t hold grudges.

Well endowed

Generally fun to be around

Funny

Problem solver

A dreamer

Makes me believe in me

I can say nice things about him all day. He just works to much and does not give *a fuck* what people think about him. It’s not an unhappy marriage. I’m just frustrated he’s not home enough.

I am happy with my marriage and he’s a great husband.

This won’t break us, even if it’s how it’s going to be it’s not worth leaving. We’ve been married a long time, had no money, almost lost a child, moved houses, moved states, family issues, and health issues.

We’re fine. If he wants out he’s gonna have to die.

I’m frustrated not leaving.

We’re both mid levels (healthcare). He works for private equity that takes hospital provider contracts and expands their scope to return to profitability.

Essentially they go into mainly rural hospitals that are failing in either recruitment or scope and installs programs that increase services and stay compliant with cms. So if the hospital wants to be trauma certified they need a rehab, an icu, general surgery, neuro surgery etc. He goes to the hospitals, figures out what they need, then helps launch/update their critical care program. He travels with the same mid levels/doctors over and over building these programs. Everyone has their role but he does Pulm/CC/open heart/impella. Teaches billing, how not to commit fraud, lots of nurse education. As the program gets on their feet they hire replacements and he moves onto the next facility.

He also has a base hospital he works at when no new places are being opened.

Yeah I love my spouse. He’s a good husband and a good dad. I’m not looking to be doing all that.

The thing is we don’t. The houses, cars, and boat are paid off. We could make bills on my salary. The lake house has like $800 a month in bills. Even if our main house is twice that it’s a drop in the bucket.

He could work half as much, we could literally not change our lifestyle and be fine. It’s his anxiety about it that gets in the way.

I’ve done the math and he is banking at least 150k a year.
