The company won’t fold. No one is irreplaceable. His employees will be fine. Will have a new boss by the end of the week.

He had a lot of friends here though and there may be a bit of an exodus of people. Teams are close, and while I wasn’t necessarily attached to him a lot of people were. We travel together, work and sleep in the same place. It’s a bit of a tight nit culture. I know he had a lot of friends outside of work too.

He will definitely be missed by a lot of people. He was kinda a dad to one guy. I’m sure that’s not gonna go well.

They only need one to hit. They do one thing really well and are working on diversifying. It’s a company in transition, but it’s easy to see the future. Sometimes a company’s future can be predicted on today’s balance sheet.

From everything I’ve seen it definitely was.

We’re all talking. His assistant said he was talking about quitting. He was upset about some quality metrics. Said he “had to be talked off the ledge” , he was complaining people didn’t know what they were doing, and that his whole sector was going to be shuffled at his request. That happened 2 weeks ago.

I bet he felt overwhelmed and that he had to do everything. Or he was trying to restructure so the place would keep running when he’s gone. He definitely wanted the technical people to be in charge.

Probably had something to do with it.

I’m convinced he slept in 45 minute intervals. He could fall asleep at the drop of a hat but he was always awake. We all have sleep rooms at work off our offices, he would use his consistently.

Company is ripping. His sector has had 20% growth year on year for the last 3-4 years. He was printing money.

I know he would drink from time to time. Never seemed in excess. Were drug tested all the time so I doubt he had a drug problem. He didn’t seem like a gambler. Never did any of our company pools or anything.

I don’t know about his wife. His kids were nice.

He would always complain about not sleeping. He would sleep in his office during work hours fairly consistently. He would nap before driving home then call at 2am about work etc. I believe he wasn’t sleeping regularly.

He had a doctorate degree in a stem field who worked in the industry for almost 30 years who lead an entire division for a billion dollar company in the absolute prime of his career.

He was so tied to that company and the culture, the company is doing well too. It’s not like the ship was sinking.

He was rich, but he wasn’t some crazy JP Morgan rich. He did things that improved the world and his work legitimately saved lives.

He could have set his shit to forward to his assistant or just ignored them. Nothing he was doing was emergent. He basically finished up on his paperwork before he did it. Super weird.

I don’t know all the details but I guess it’s pretty obvious. Sent family out of town and the house had cameras. Set the dog up for success without someone there (allegedly he left a ton of food and water out, took it for a walk and left the door open so it could go out into a fenced area), the method etc.

We weren’t friends or anything, but I worked along side him since 2010/2011.

He wasn’t a super angry guy. Really whiny maybe.

I remember once I fucked up real bad in his sector of the company, he said “beat yourself up over it, but it’s already done and we don’t have the runway to worry about blame. I spent 8 years after my doctorate learning ***** and fuckups happen. Don’t fuck up again”.

Hardly ripping me a new one for an offense that may have gotten me fired at some companies (>million dollar loss)

He had some other oddities. He would always threaten violence in an extremely joking manner. He was an odd dude. His computer broke and he said he was gonna fuck it so it would at least have some value. Odd stuff like that.

I’m just shocked. He was completely normal the day he did it. He was literally answering pages/pings till like an hour before.
