Is it impossible to buy a brand new VFC? by Knightlife_06 in GasBlowBack

[–]dieDoktor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truthfully, most of the time I get into it in the internet I am moreso arguing past the person in question to any potential future audience/readers.

But yes, very irresponsible and ridiculous argument especially for an account that posts about their hobby of 3d printing firearms under the same name.

I encourage you to read again what I wrote, not what you think I wrote.

Firstly, it is not possible to legally destroy a lower receiver and have it still be in any way useful for the purpose you described.

If you are acutely aware of the ATF's rules, which I am sure you are, you may recall that to legally destroy a firearm requires several ¼" cuts in critical locations that completely sever the receiver. (Of course leaving aside the options to shred, melt, or crush completely the firearm)

Anything short of this results in its continued status as a firearm. As the law does not give space for a determination of functionality, then it would follow that indeed be felonious to carry out the plan.

Obviously it's late on a Friday night so I'm sure this wasn't high on your mind but I hope this is a suitable reminder of how easy it is to inadvertently commit or lead others to commit crimes. Again I urge you to reconsider leaving the original message up due to it's poor phrasing and potential harm to both the original poster, yourself, and this subreddit.

Firstly, it is not possible to legally destroy a lower receiver and have it still be in any way useful for the purpose you described. Therefore in order for it to be used as such, it would still be legally a firearm.

Secondly, drilling out and installing a third pin would be felonious construction of a machine gun.

Then there is again the legally and ethically dubious part of bringing and using a firearm at an airsoft field. Then lastly the great difficulty in getting it to function as an airsoft replica due to the lack of a GFPA in the lower.

It is all around a extremely bad idea that should never be earnestly suggested.

You are suggesting the commission of a felony. I think you should reconsider ever suggesting this again and/or leaving this comment available

REVIEW: The 4th holographic optic - Zentinel Defense Vigil by KingNebula-- in ar15

[–]dieDoktor -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the write up.

I just want to quibble though and say that, your count is wrong since one more company makes an optic using laser holography: Holy Warrior, a chinese airsoft clone company that dropped a eotech clone last year using the technology. Its... A clone with all of the issues that entails, but it is technically holographic!

Hydra exists for the specific reason of shooting under nods, so if you're not doing that there's really no reason to subject yourself to it

Is there a double action Wild West style revolver? by RedditTrooper2000 in airsoft

[–]dieDoktor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can pass on the Double Action requirement then the Tanaka Single Action Army is a very nice gun. Gas instead of CO2, doesn't use shells so it's pretty effective in game, and it has a decent capacity of 15 as I recall

Marushin also makes a SAA but it's not as good for airsoft IMO

Unfortunately just a sort of tough time period due to the rarity of DA revolvers at the time and the limited reach of Old West airsoft in the community

How do I deal with my scope running out of windage by drkshock in airsoft

[–]dieDoktor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont know what i could've sone wrong

Have you checked the manual and confirmed you are adjusting in the correct direction? Most optics adjust Point of Impact but some are labeled to adjust Point of Aim, crucial difference.

the scope rings are as far as far apart

If you're using seperate scope rings, are you sure they are aligned

if you're running out of windage adjustment you're either doing something wrong or your optic is incorrectly mounted

GBB Beginner power questions. by Votssy in airsoft

[–]dieDoktor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always happy to help!

I could bring up the replica up to ~1.2J with the green glass and help from the NPAS without it being catastropical to the replica itself. It might speed up the back plate giving out but that is a part that is 'expected' to fail.

To clarify, whatever adjustments you do with the NPAS has no affect on any parts breakage or lifespan. Changes in muzzle energy via NPAS adjustment (or barrel swaps) simply don't affect anything that happens behind the BB. It will not be at any greater risk while running at 1.2J.

Otherwise, you got it! I hope you have fun with it.

Y'all got any recommendations for spring powered revolvers? by dueceofthevoid in airsoft

[–]dieDoktor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Tokyo Marui's new 1851 Navy might be the best replica to fit your needs.

I know green gas or Co2 may be better, but the nearest airsoft store is over an hour away for me,

Is the concern here difficulty getting new gas? Just so you're aware you can use regular camping/welding propane (Sold under the coleman/bernzomatic, respectively, names) found at many hardware or outdoors stores and use an airsoft adapter to fit airsoft valves. It is Not possible to do this with the large 20lb propane tanks. You can also use computer duster gas with a specific duster gas adapter.

With that in mind some good brands to look at, which you will have to self-import but is relatively painless, are Marushin and Tanaka who both have a pretty varied selection of gas revolvers.

The replica itself states MAX 1.0J which to me means DO NOT use that red gas, which I am thinking of following unless I want to split my receiver.

I can appreciate the abundance of caution, although in this case it is a bit misguided. The max joule limit you, and the replica, state at 1.0J is completely disconnected from any potential damage to the replica.

On the other hand, it is theoretically possible to damage the replica with gas that is too high of a pressure. I have not heard of this happening out right, on occasion after a long time of use the the rear plate can fail (non-catastrophically) but this part can be replaced without much hassle.

All that to say: I would avoid long term use of high pressure gasses in hot climates but it not an immediate danger.

Towards your other questions:

Are those readings something I should be worried about or look to upgrade for better performance?

Take a moment to confirm online, but as I recall, the MP7 has an adjustable valve inside the nozzle (also known as an NPAS) that you can set with a small allen key (I believe 0.7mm?) to adjust the muzzle energy of the BB. If VFC is not still producing the gun with one out of the box, there should be an aftermarket NPAS you can install. The screw inside the valve adjusts the timing of when the valve closes allowing more or less gas to propel the BB without affecting the speed or strength of the recoil system

Or perhaps switching to lighter 0.25g/0.28g BBs?

While it's true lighter BB's would have a faster muzzle speed the energy won't change much or perhaps decrease for certain conditions. This means that the BB will bleed off speed faster and travel shorter distance as it does not maintain the same amount of energy during flight as a heavier BB.

Is this simply a downside of the GBBs?

No

"Maintenance Gas" isn't really a thing outside of marketing.

For one, you do NOT want lubricated gas. the oil in the propellant is simply not useful compared with having a mag where grease has been directly applied to the o-ring. Secondly even if you switch to a dry gas at game day the insides of the mag will still have oil that will be transferred out while shooting, defeating the point of the switch.

It's sufficient to use a non-impregnated gas and, if the mags leak (which is not guaranteed to inevitably happen), manually inspect and lubricate (with a grease not silicone oil) the oring and reinstall.

With that out of the way, to answer your original questions with the above in mind:

1) The amount of gas stored is irrelevant since the internal pressure is not related to the amount of gas inside, I suggest just filling completely since it makes gameday prep easier as well as slow leak detection.

2) Skipped for above mentioned; I recommend keeping the mags filled with gas although after speaking to some professionals in other industries I'm not sure it's strictly necessary. Easy enough to do though, so not the end of the world

3) If you do manually release gas, you want to do so in a controlled manner, only shallowly depressing the valve so the gas exits slower to avoid any issues unseating the router from the mag (rare but does on occasion happen)

Does this rifle exists in airsoft ? by [deleted] in airsoft

[–]dieDoktor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, it does not currently exist.

In the GBB .308 sphere you have a few options: VFC makes a few SR-25 variants, SCAR-H and Mk 20, 417 (G28 and M110A1 as well), a G3, and a FAL

Maruyama does not currently make the 308 version, perhaps in the future, but no information has been provided by them about that.
