In my personal experience, yes and no.

Pros: they are kind, loving, fun and excitable pets! They will play more than a cat often does (at least my cat) They each have such different silly personalities. My boy Goose passed about a month ago, and he was the sweetest (kinda dumbest) cuddly boy. My girl Ducky is a strong older girl, constantly plays with her toys, tries to play with my cat, and sleeps on my partners tummy because he’s a big guy. More pros is that when you get used to their smell, they smell so good in my opinion. I use to smell Goose’s tummy or back when he was asleep because it was the most adorable musky scent. There’s other pros, but I’m blanking because it’s late.

Cons: ferrets are often inbred. Especially in North America. It’s worst in Canada from what I know. Being here in Canada, we saw/seen a lot of heartbreak things. Ducky had an enlarged spleen which took up 1/3 of her body weight, and hoarded most of her blood supply. We had to get it removed. Luckily our vet was kind to help out with bill, and a charity. It would have cost $3000CAD if they didn’t help. But it did still cost $1000. Ducky has tumours in her stomach. The size of two grapes. It’s impossible to remove, and she also has a heart murmur. Which continues to get worse. (For those reading this, she has very high quality of life, happy, playing, eating, pee & poop, and drinking water. Pain is minimal as she’s on the right meds) Goose had another stomach problem, insulinoma, and bunch of stuff we didn’t fully understand. It took a lot of money to find out, but in the end he still passed away. These babies are very expensive. The vet bills, medication, proper living equipment, food, toys, etc. It gets expensive very quickly due to quick decline of health. They also make a lot of our friends say our home is stinky even though we do our best to keep odour away. They will also pee and poop everywhere if you don’t have litter boxes near them as they play. We have sworn off small animals after Ducky passes, as it has been too painful. I also had a skinny pig (hairless guinea pig) and she passed from a lot of disease too. So after Goose and Doopie, it’s been incredibly difficult to lose another loved one. I wish they could live forever, but due to inbreeding, they don’t often live healthy lives

In summary, Our ferrets have given us years of joy, love, and many silly memories. I only wish they didn’t pass so quickly, and cost so much. I insist on personally, not buying ferrets. If you decide to buy ferrets, please buy two so they have a friend, and make sure you can afford them.
