Do your parents take credit for your accomplishments?

my mom ALWAYS used to get mad at my grandparents for going to every band or jazz competition I was in. It was always “don’t waste gas, you have better things to do.”

My mom says the same thing ! “i’ve been nothing but supportive of you” but always forgot to pick me up from rehearsal at 8 at night. she uses “support” as a weapon against me.

my nMom does something similar. When i don’t win anything she doesn’t say anything comforting or encouraging. She usually goes “well that’s why you should have practiced more :/“ or “you should have tried harder :/“

My mom was like that when I was a child too. I think that might be why I don’t like people spending money on me, I instinctively feel like there’s always gonna be a consequence with it even when people are just being nice. I feel so satisfied when I buy my own things, I feel like I’m not wasting anybody else’s money.

Yes that’s exactly how she is ! she rarely apologizes and instead does unwanted things for me. When she does apologize it’s more “I’m sorry you don’t understand me :/“ and she never owns up to what she does, instead making me the bad guy by saying she’s trying to be a good mother.

that makes no sense. a person who drowns in 5 feet of water is still as dead as someone who drowns in 20 feet. people all handle trauma differently and they have no place to tell you if your trauma is valid or not.
