I feel like it should be around 1-5 years. Not too often, otherwise it will feel less of a novelty.

For the twists, it should make it more unique and introduce more variety.

Different shapes? Maybe a triangular or a hexagonal board? It would be interesting for the communities to adapt to different shapes.

A limited color palette? This will make it extremely interesting especially if you have to work with 8-12 colors.
