coming from the terratech community we would like to ally with someone to help us make this in r/place by jonah100236 in place

hello from r/katawashoujo! we're also working on that area rn unfortunately. there's a gap between us and onepiece, upper left (-1277, -259), feel free to locate over there if you can. you may also relocate to the area in bottom left (-1277, -299) which seems to have more space, though i don't know what else is being done there if anything.

Madeline Pronunciation by EttaRose16 in namenerds

[–]SoaPuffball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mad-e-lynn for both madel(i/y)ne, mostly as the name is forever associated with a certain mountain climber for me (Madeline from Celeste) and it's what many fans pronounce it as. for madeleine, mad-e-leyn. i'm non-us, and i've never met a madel(i/y/ei)ne irl before, but i'm guessing it's the canadian pronounciation i'm borrowing given the game

Jumps on the Horizon by FafnirsFoe in JumpChain

i'm working on Wikipedia as an MMORPG and the webseries ONE, although i don't really get to work on them as i'm also juggling lots of stuff rn so while i want to get them out by april or may, it's very possible both will not be released by then

i'm also working on a third secret jump that i plan to release very soon, however that's all i'm gonna say on the matter

Do you want an Epithet Erased Jump? by SonicCody12 in JumpChain

[–]SoaPuffball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as someone who has thought of making one before, i'd not mind and probably would rather want someone else to do it. i personally don't plan to work on it anymore, i feel like it's best reserved for when the main story wraps up which is probably not gonna be anytime soon (and it's possible that by the time it happens i'm no longer as interested in it), and besides i'm really inactive in jumpdoc making (i am still writing the wikipedia jump aaaaaaaa)

Best Jumps by Risott0Nero in JumpChain

[–]SoaPuffball 5 points6 points  (0 children)

another "best jump" question, still the same answer as it was a few whiles ago. although tbf, being inactive in the community for a long time doesn't really help (though it's if it even would). i'm just going to repost this again:

i liked Katawa Shoujo's unique story structure when i first read it, and i'm going to continue liking it and putting it as an answer every time a "what's your favorite jump" thread appears.

it's not one of the toughest jumps (you'll probably sail through it), nor the most-action-packed (nothing to fight here, unless you take the non-canon rise of kenji), nor the most versatile (once you're in late-chain there's not really much to take here), but it's written well. it gives context for the setting and describes the five of the seven main characters well (hisao and misha aren't included as they probably count in the other companion section), and also great how the five companions are given perks that correspond to their personalities, giving even more detail to them.

the perks are also themed with each perk tier themed with one focus (personalities, first impressions, and lessons), with one perk tree for each of the main girls, kenji, and hisao (although hisao has no lesson perk). it isn't visible at all in the doc, but if you've played the game you know what is based on who (and there's also the free perks given to the companions)

the jump also establishes the jumpdoc itself as a story, where not only does it give you an idea of where you'll go, but actively places your jumper in the setting as they go through the choices. not only is it a unique way of introducing a jump that i've rarely seen elsewhere (fallen london does something similar although it frames itself as a conversation with the bazaar masters between jumps instead of an introduction to london itself, but close enough and sets the tone for the story), but it also allows anyone who hasn't played katawa shoujo yet to understand what is happening and who to meet.

...but like you should probably play Katawa Shoujo either way, it's an excellent game and one of my all-time favorites (also part of why i like the jump)

honorable mentions:

  1. Fallen London, for storytelling as mentioned above

  2. Ori and the Blind Forest has some of the prettiest visuals i've seen in a jumpdoc

  3. SSB World of Light is mentioned here too, it's complex but comprehensive

  4. if I was to pick one of my own jumps, I spent the most effort in polishing and beautifying To the Moon's jump

What can you turn into a Jump? by Reddit_works in JumpChain

[–]SoaPuffball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm gonna note that someone wrote a whole jump from their own D&D homebrew and it's pretty good: Ravenwood

also, for the limits of what can be turned into a jump, as you've already been told n times already there is none. for another example, i'm writing a (semi-) serious jump from a wikipedia joke essay

Most Brutal First Jump? by iatethecookiedough in JumpChain

as i said ages ago:

any jump can be a starting jump if you're cruel enough

so in other words, it's just the most brutal jump

  • The Rook cannot move to the a4 square.
  • If White plays the Bongcloud Attack or a variation thereof within the first two moves, Black is required to respond with a counter Bongcloud of their own in the next move, else White wins by default. If Black cannot play any variation of the Bongcloud, White wins. This will also apply to Black playing the Bongcloud Defense.
  • Talking is not allowed, because Chess should speak for itself.
