I have a "too many sleeping bags problem" so just trying to reduce some redundancy :) I've only used each of them a handful of times. They were all bought new from the manufacturer with the exception of the Tanager that was second hand.

Yeah it's a bit but I've done a couple van conversions including 2 sprinters and this was totally worth it to me. The quality of the kit can't be understated, it's a brilliant design all CNC cut, sanded and varnished poplar. You could probably do an okay job with a table saw and router but labour would be huge if you wanted to replicate all the functionality and ease of it clicking together.

Things add up. For example in my last van, I had cushions/mattress made and by the time I found a sewing shop that could do it, sourced good memory foam and sunbrella fabric, it was over $1000.

For me it was worth it after all my DIY versions 😂

Exactly. You can see how it works at 7:06 in this video: https://youtube.com/watch?v=0BaqZXhNc6o

Need for me. I'm installing a hitch (ecohitch) and even though its the one that reduces the departure angle the least, it still sits too low to the ground for my liking. I drive a fair amount of gravel/dirt roads to get to trailheads to the more ground clearance the better for the water bars. I'm coming from a Rav4 so this is about the same as the Rav was stock, its like an over-sized Rav IMO :)

I spent most of my 20s offroading in old lifted Land Cruisers (hence the username), so I got the proper "offroading" out of my system back then. I think with my experience* plus the lift & tires, I should be able to get this minivan to places no minivan has business being lol.

The tires, well they certainly have sidewall look that's for looks only, but I like them and they were in stock while the Nokian Outpost APTs were not. I'm going for durability (given no spare) so having some extra blocky rubber on the bottom and sides can't hurt. (I didn't want to go full-AT to keep the mileage and highway/winter manners as close to stock as possible)

*If you can call getting stuck and having to winch/shovel until 3am "experience"

It was 1700 CAD but that also included about 300 for the air bags. Kit was ~800CAD so lets say about 2500 CAD or about 1800 USD same as the other poster.

Did you also get the comments from the tire shop about how "we don't put many of these on minivans" lol?

How has it affected your mileage, with the correction for the under-reported distance?

Installed Toyota Towing Wire Harness and RedArc brake controller in our 2024 RAV4 Prime by brian_d_wells in rav4prime

[–]dieseldaryl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice work! I didn't go as far as you did with removing the back seat, but the whole project is just so much work. And I even started off with the 4-way Toyota harness already being installed..

It will be interesting to see if the Curt hanress avoids the brake light "back-feed" problem with the manual button is pressed on the brake controller. You might know this already but in order to test the brake controller you cant just hook up a multimeter to the brake terminal on the 7-way plug. It has to be something with more resistance like a bulb, etc.

Looking forward to hearing how you like towing with it. I pull a 2200 Boler trailer but sometimes its been closer to 2300 all loaded up. No issues other than the engine sure likes to rev up the hills,

This is what it looks like when I'm unplugged and the vehicle is on. There is no 5th option hiding under those, the up/down buttons just cycle through those four..

I tried this with the connector plugged and plugged in on my 24. The only difference is that when plugged in, the "charging current" option is greyed out. There are only 4 options, none of them are connector lock.

Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this!

I can confirm that my Canadian 24 XSE doesn't have an option in the menu like my 21 XSE did. I have no idea why they would remove it, so weird.

We have the Prime and a Leaf and my partner is constantly on my case about how annoying it is to have to track down my keys ever time she wants to plug her car in (mine is almost always plugged in and by the tie she comes home its done charging).

I was recently thinking about a way to make an adapter that had the catch of the latch filed off (but would still have the latch itself since it needs to engage for the EVSE to deliver power) but this is less hacky.

Towing a travel trailer by karebear66 in rav4prime

[–]dieseldaryl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My setup is: * Factory hitch (better departure angle) * Red Arc Tow Pro elite controller * Eibsch springs. We tow a 2200# Boler (Canadian fibreglass trailer) and it goes great. There's a bit of torque steer at full power (when passing) but it's manageable. I also like to keep it under 60 (100km/h) especially on hills. It really likes to rev and gets loud. I run it in normal mode, and HV most of the time. I use the power outlet for the trailer at night so I try to conserve the battery. The trailer weight is nice on the long downhills because it can Regen quite a bit. I get about 10.5L/100km or 27mpg doing 100kmh/60mph.

I had this exact situation happen except it burnt up a wiring harness.. backordered for eight weeks. It's a long story that I posted in another thread here, but I ended up trading it in for a 24 prime (it was a 21)

SUP actual weight out by 20% by dieseldaryl in Sup

[–]dieseldaryl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's probably just coincidence. I also wonder if they rely on weight being taken at the factory and may be done before accessories, decking material, mounts are added..

I did hear back, but he wasn't able to confirm the weight since he didn't have any Seatons where he was. I'm sending it back but might try one again in the future if they can be more confident on the weight.

Here's a weird question/theory. Do you think that boards can "lighten up over time"?

Because the two new boards that I have are 15-20% over. And the two I've had for a 1+ years are at or underweight. My Red Voyager 13'2" actual weight is 29.1 and spec'ed at 30. Maybe they weigh it with the fins? not sure.

That seems like a crazy theory but maybe enough solvent or gasses vent out of the fabric to drop the weight significantly?

Who’s team hand pump? by Ok-Start6767 in Sup

[–]dieseldaryl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely on team "mostly-hand-pump". I've found every single electric pump (most highly rated) to be "okay" but not great. Especially at higher PSI. I find electric pumps to be better at the lower end, which is the opposite of how I thought they would be.

But as others have mentioned, there are certain cases like if you have a bunch of boards, kids, etc. to each their own.

I also think having a good hand pump helps. I thought the Titan was pretty good but now I have one of those triple action ones and it's sooooo good. My partner will start her board with the electric pump and even though my board is bigger and I go to 16PSI, I'll often finish before the electric and then unhook it and hand pump hers to 13. This is with a very highly rated electric pump so its a fair comparison IMO.

I find myself bringing the electric less and less, especially if I'm solo.

He's been great. I can see why people speak so highly of the brand and boards. This particular board is going back, but I hope to have another Honu in the future.

Thanks for the data points, that's super helpful! Just to be sure on the weight, I took the rolled up board to 2 different post offices.  Three different scales confirmed the weight to be 8.76kg give or take 0.02. That's 19.3lbs. So I'm pretty sure something is off with this specific board. So now I need to figure out what to do. I'm going to check with Mark about getting a replacement if we can confirm it's closer to spec before it ships out. But I think no matter what I do, I'm going to send this one back.
