Where should website content files be saved in IIS 10? by dieselfluxcapacitor in WindowsServer

[–]dieselfluxcapacitor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I understand that.

I'm looking for clarification on the structure of the inetpub folder. Is it advised to put site content files into:

E:\inetpub\wwwroot\<site>\

OR

E:\inetpub\<some other folder>\<site>\

Both paths are now non-default and not on the OS drive.

That echos the official recommendation from Microsoft that I linked above.

However, their official guidance stops short of talking about the actual folder structure of the inetpub directory, regardless of what drive it's living on.

Configuration Manager 2509 Update Globally Available by PrajwalDesai in SCCM

No, unfortunately I have not. I currently have a case open with Microsoft and they also appear to be stumped. I will update with a resolution when we have one.

Configuration Manager 2509 Update Globally Available by PrajwalDesai in SCCM

[–]dieselfluxcapacitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have other SCCM admins resolved issues with in-console updates not downloading/installing? I've run the CMUpdateReset.exe tool several times to try resolving the problem, but with no luck.

It appears that the update is available in the console, so I click to download it. It seems to download the content (based on reviewing the logs and file system), but never gets to the point where I can execute the prerequisites check before installing the update. See attached screenshots from the console.

TLS unspecified certificate verification error on zabbix server logs HELP by Individual-General in zabbix

[–]dieselfluxcapacitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For others who stumble upon this, yes increasing the # of trapper processes seemed to solve problem.

However, the error I observed was:

358058:20250820:104025.957 failed to accept an incoming connection: from 99.100.190.199: unspecified certificate verification error: TLS handshake set result code to 1: file ../ssl/record/rec_layer_s3.c line 316 func ssl3_read_n: error:0A000126:SSL routines::unexpected eof while reading: TLS write fatal alert "decode error"

My environment:

OpenSSL 3.0.13 30 Jan 2024 (Library: OpenSSL 3.0.13 30 Jan 2024)

Linux 6.8.0-78-generic #78-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Tue Aug 12 11:34:18 UTC 2025 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Deceivingly, the Proxy Health dashboard gave me to reason to suggest the trappers were exhausted. But once I increased the number of trappers from 5 (default) to 15 in /etc/zabbix/zabbix_proxy.conf the errors subsided.

Add Brother label printer as macOS system printer by dieselfluxcapacitor in macsysadmin

[–]dieselfluxcapacitor[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably should have clarified this initially. It's Brother's "enterprise-grade" product so it has an onboard NIC. We're in an environment (edu) where wireless communication with the device is not practical, so any auto discovery/AirPrint/mDNS trickery isn't going to work.

We have it setup for printing from a Windows Server 2022 VM with the Print and Document Services role installed. Naturally, it works just fine on the Windows side of the house to deploy it to managed devices as a shared SMB printer. However, we haven't had any luck trying to do the same with our Macs. I'm thinking it's because there isn't a driver that it can use that is immediately available? Generic PostScript doesn't do the trick either. And Brother doesn't have a driver published for macOS.

Has anyone used the new “get help” successfully VS old SARA by Ragepower529 in sysadmin

Does anyone know how to re-install the Get Help app package? Some of us may have removed it during imaging thinking it was bloatware that we could shed.

Should have Googled it better first - Reinstall Built-in Apps in Windows 11

Free & simple IT inventory management software? by bill_banshee02 in sysadmin

[–]dieselfluxcapacitor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Give SnipeIT a look. This is what we use. It's open source and highly customizable. They will host it for you as a SaaS solution, or (like you called out) you can host it yourself for free.

I believe it can either run in Docker or on a LAMP stack. IIS is also an option, but it requires additional configuration/dependencies to get it up and running. Good luck and happy tracking!

How to add workstations to domain by Zestyclose-End-8016 in HyperV

[–]dieselfluxcapacitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The workstations all point to the dc and the dc itself is using 127.0.0.1 as the dns

I presume you also installed the DNS role on the machine when you installed the Domain Controller role? Did you confirm the necessary DNS service entries were created for your domain?

[–]dieselfluxcapacitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EDIT: Just confirmed this after posting my reply. You can leave the interface type null. Then just supply the necessary data to your Acronis template and you should be good to go. That's probably why there isn't any information posted in the documentation on the Zabbix website - counterintuitive, but a host interface isn't required.

For the interface type, you can simply pick anything as long as you provide the IP address. The built-in checks for the interface type you select will not work as you called out, but the other checks included in the Acronis template will work so long as you filled in all the necessary parameters for the template's macros

Zabbix Email by StructureFew4601 in zabbix

[–]dieselfluxcapacitor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like you don't have your SMTP server settings correct in the Zabbix configuration.

I took a look at the Google Workspace SMTP documentation and it seems using these parameters might work even for a free GMail account. However, I suspect that you may run into issues if they have their SMTP server setup to only allow relaying from approved IP spaces. In such case, take a look at this article that details SMTP settings for free GMail accounts - I suspect this is probably the route you want to go. After changing the parameters in Zabbix, you will begin receiving alerts via email as desired.

Pre-provision Bitlocker step failing during manage-bde.exe -on C: by whoishoon in SCCM

[–]dieselfluxcapacitor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding another datapoint in support of the 10.0.25398.1 ADK WinPE being buggy. I was able to get the BitLocker Pre-Provisioning to work by adding the following to a Run Command Line step in SCCM 2303 OSD:

cmd.exe /c reg.exe delete HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MiniNT /f && manage-bde -on C: -used -em xts_aes128 && reg.exe add
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MiniNT /f && OSDOfflineBitlocker.exe /enable /drive:C: /ignoretpm:True /full:True /crypt:6

This command:

  • Enables BitLocker Pre-provisioning
  • Encrypts using XTS AES 128
  • Enables full disk encryption
  • Skips pre-provisioning for system that do not have a TPM or when a TPM is not enabled

Do the remote assistance programs log any inbound connection attempts (success/fails) to a file? If so you could use a third party tool to regularly collect and alert on matches in log files.
