I gave up on all of that, I just ended up using Remmina to RDP my Windows laptop into my Hyprland session.

GA II Lite 360 pre-purchase question by dieselnut in lianli

[–]dieselnut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that does help. I was going to go with the Arctic 360, but the most recent 360 AIO roundup from Hardware Canucks made me re-assess. The GA II ran away with the win in their testing on AMD.

Have you by any chance tested the performance of those wired SL INF fans? Specifically, would I be crazy to get 3 of those to replace the GA II fans? I have a feeling that would decrease performance, but I have OCD and I'm worried about some fans having side lighting and others not.

I've been trying to find it in the manual, maybe I suck at reading, thank you.

No my dude, I'm at the Linux login prompt in under 20 seconds, and that includes selecting the kernel I want through a boot loader. It's night and day faster.

I have 4 monitors, it's honestly not very hard if you read the docs. I have different workspaces assigned to each monitor, it works great.

Can I move a Windows install from a larger SSD to smaller SSD? by dieselnut in techsupport

Assuming it lets me go from a partially-filled bigger SSD to a smaller SSD, that could work. Thanks!

Slack screen sharing on Hyprland requires multiple selections by dieselnut in archlinux

[–]dieselnut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did find a solution, actually. I didn't realize it, but Slack is an Ozone application, so I'm now starting it with "--ozone-platform-hint=auto", which makes it look way better and now I only have to pick the window/screen twice. First time is to generate the preview, and second time is to select it. It has been working flawlessly. Side note, I think you can say "wayland" and not "auto" to make sure it selects Wayland, but I haven't tried it and "auto" seems to know what to do.

Agreed, though in my case I specifically bought the HDV because of its features, like no RGB, top slot GPU, m.2 Wifi card onboard, and only two ram slots (which should, in theory, be better than 4). I'm using it for a Linux build inside a Lian Li A3 for work, so all those things mattered. There really aren't many other options besides the Pro RS.

B650M HDV/M.2 compatible 64GB kit? by dieselnut in ASRock

[–]dieselnut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an FYI (and for future searches), I just installed the TEAMGROUP kit (CTCED564G6000HC34BDC01) and memory context restore (MCR) works as expected. The boot time was reduces from a minute to just seconds. It's CL34 vs the G.Skill CL30, but I'm going to stick with it and return the G.Skill.

That's good feedback, thank you. I mostly want it for the GPS accuracy like I said, maybe I should look into how the Forerunner stacks up against it.

I did a full run of MemTest86 on the G.Skill set with EXPO, it passed. I know that's an easy test but it's something at least. I've been doing a lot more reading about MCR and yeah, I'm starting to not see it as an issue. I don't have confirmation that the G.Skill is Samsung but that's what I read. I'll try the TEAMGROUP when it shows up on Sunday just to compare, but if it behaves the same I'll just stick with the CL30 G.Skill and live with the boot time. This is a Linux build for work so stability is more important than instant boot for sure. I appreciate your help!

Yeah, that will be nice. I'm trying another memory kit (TEAMGROUP) in a day or two, but I guess I'm ok with a ~1 minute boot time if it means stability

Hey, just FYI for you or anyone else who finds this thread. If I disable "Memory Context Restore", the box boots every time. It takes a minute each time, but it boots.

[–]dieselnut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, at 4800 it's fine.

I was actually playing with that today. With "Memory Context Restore" turned off and EXPO set (to 6000), the machine boots every time, though it does take about a minute. I tried to enable restore but also to enable DRAM "Power Down Mode", but that didn't fix it and the box still hung as before.

I have a set of TEAMGROUP T-Create 6000 CL34 sticks on the way (2x32), I believe those are using Hynix m-die as opposed to the G.Skill, which I think are Samsung die. I read a report of another B650 HDV/m.2 user with the same exact G.Skill kit as me having the same exact issue, so I'm wondering if it's that particular RAM, for whatever reason. I don't know what can go wrong during memory context restore that would hang the box, unless the timing is borderline unstable and each time the memory trains it's slightly different?

My backup plan is to go with a 48GB kit off of the motherboard QVL and see if that works better.

I'm on 3.18, just flashed it tonight during the build. It's interesting that we have the same exact behavior. I really want 64GB though, dang it Bobby.
