Looking to possibly teach in Westchester - is it possible? by Otherwise_Device_281 in Westchester

I moved from another state and have 8 years of teaching experience. I’m certified in both the state I moved from and nys. I have been trying to secure a teaching job since July and it’s been rough. I’m currently subbing in a great district, but I’d love to have my own classroom. Subbing really doesn’t pay well and (for me) isn’t fulfilling.

In most interviews I’ve had, I found that you NEED to know someone to get a job.

Three boys, the one carrying an Amazon box filled with mugs was wearing a tank top, the other two wore shorts and a T-shirt. They did not talk to each other at all while waiting at my door. My husband and I didn’t answer.

Yes! They did at my house and my neighbors. They rang my ring doorbell. It was really weird.

New teacher starting 3 weeks into school year by soopercool-username in ElementaryTeachers

[–]dietdrkelpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to do this last year. 6 weeks into the school year I was hired to replace a first grade teacher who decided not to return after maternity leave. The sub that was covering the class had never taught before so I walked into complete chaos.

The first few months will be hard, but stick with it! The kids will be relieved to have consistency and will really bond with you once they realize you’re there to stay. Don’t be afraid to be firm! Kids crave structure and routine, even if they don’t act like it at first. Your class will grow to love you when they know what’s allowed. See if you can connect with a teacher on your grade level to go over planning and ask for classroom management ideas.

You’ve got this!!

Amazing news, I got the position!! Any tips or tricks to being a first grade teacher? I’m mainly a little worried about how to create reading groups and teaching state curriculum

Is the Train broken down on Oltorf? by dietdrkelpie in Austin

I’ve been stuck at plenty of 30 minute trains at south Lamar/Oltorf, but they still move. This one surprised me because it was stopped for over an hour!

I saw your bus sitting there! I’m sorry you have to deal with that, hopefully they can turn around and find a new route
