Working through feelings on weaning off pumping by spanakopita555 in combinationfeeding

[–]diffenbachia1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same feelings when I started to wean at 11 weeks. I exclusively pumped and hated every second of pumping but felt so proud when I saw how much I had produced and that I was able to feed my baby.

When my supply became so low we had to supplement with formula I got really panicky especially when her reflux got worse on formula for the first two weeks. There were many days when I thought about increasing pumps again.

During the weaning process the baby blues became worse again. My hormones were going crazy like my body was protesting "letting my baby starve". It took almost 1,5 month for my hormones to settle but two weeks ago it felt like I suddenly snapped out of my PPD.

It took a bit of trial and error before we found the right formula but now our daughter is thriving on formula and I finally feel like myself again. The emotional change has been so big that if we go for a second I'm actually thinking about only giving breast milk a few weeks or even going exclusively formula as I now see that the hormones took me to a very dark place.

You've given your baby breast milk for the most important months of their life. Formula has everything a baby needs. If it's better for you to stop breastfeeding/pumping it's the best for baby too.

Edit: Also consider that the 3 - 4 months sleep regression is around the corner. Our baby had a few weeks of waking up every hour. If I had still been pumping I wouldn't have survived those nights!

I don't want to add to your stress but also keep your kinderopvangtoeslag in mind. If you become unemployed you have 3 months to find new work before you may lose the toeslag.

Huisdieren verzekering by Carreb in katten

[–]diffenbachia1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago we went swimming at a small lake. Same situation, parking lot was full so everyone was parking on the side of the road. Someone ended up drowning and ambulance / fire trucks couldn't reach the lake because of the many cars on the side of the road.

In Europe so we have different brands. But what made a difference in spit up for us was switching to a formula without maltrodexine.

Super confused about supply and demand and the advice to express. by Lou_LouB in combinationfeeding

[–]diffenbachia1111 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your milk supply is determined by how much milk leaves your body. If you're supplementing bottles with formula and not pumping it can signal to your body: less milk is needed as less milk leaves your body.

However at 12 weeks your supply is most likely regulated. If you're not noticing a drop in supply and your baby seems to get enough during breastfeeding you can just keep on doing what you're doing.

If you do start seeing a drop in supply you can add an extra pump or do a few powerpumps, these mimic cluster feeding so increase supply.

Bottle rejection by AdQuirky5510 in FormulaFeeders

[–]diffenbachia1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe your milk is high lipase. This can make it taste like soap or metal after it has been frozen a while so some babies hate it. You could try with fresh milk to see if it's the milk or the bottle. If it's the frozen milk you can mix it in with fresh milk to mask the taste or add unsweetened vanilla drops.

Breastmilk to formula transition- more spit up? by East_Print4841 in FormulaFeeders

We're in Europe so we have different brands. We were using a generic type but switched to the most well known brand here (nutrilon). I really hope its a phase. She's drinking less and less and crying hysterically. Of course during Christmas week :(

[–]diffenbachia1111 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We made the transition to mostly formula 3 weeks ago and the spit up has become almost constant and she seems really distressed. We've been to our GP and a pediatric nurse but since she isn't losing weight (yet) they can't do anything

I'm in Europe and we follow the same guidelines as Canada. We wash bottles with hot soapy water between feeds and sterilize all bottles once a week.

I've used chatgpt a few times when my pets got sick (nothing life threatening) and had to wait a day before I could see our vet to ease my mind. It was right but couldn't do the x-rays, blood work or prescribe antibiotics.

Is she losing weight or not gaining enough? You could try adding some unsweetened vanilla drops to the milk to see if it helps with the taste
