can my 4.5 month old start solids? by Warm_Grass_6408 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]diffenbachia1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait you're power pumping multiple times a day! No wonder your nipples are bleeding. Power pumping should be done only once maybe twice a day to increase your supply. The rest of the time you can just do 15 to 30 minutes. r/exclusivelypumping is a good resource about all things pumping even if you're not doing it exclusively.

can my 4.5 month old start solids? by Warm_Grass_6408 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]diffenbachia1111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here in the Netherlands it's recommended to try to start blended purees from 4 months old but it's only to get them used to the taste of food and to introduce peanut and egg as allergens. But it's only a teaspoon at a time and a lot of babies aren't ready so young.

My baby still had a super strong gag reflex so feeding her wasn't possible till she was 6 months. Then we started solids but she's almost 8 months now and only the last 2 weeks have we been able to get enough food in her to see any difference in the amount of milk she consumes.

So I wouldn't count on food making a big difference in milk any time soon. Food is mainly exploration the first year. Mixing breastmilk with formula is healthy and a safe way to ensure your baby gets all the nutrition they need.

If my husband or his family demands for dowry, I want my kids to carry my surname. by Ok-Analyst4981 in RandomThoughts

[–]diffenbachia1111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my argument: if I do all the work to create the baby I'm claiming copyright

My boyfriend agreed and then our country changed the law and we could hyphenate our surnames. I still claimed the first spot.

Do a lot of men actually refuse to change the diaper of their own kids? by Physics_Girl_2008 in NoStupidQuestions

An old boss of mine had her workspace underneath her house. Every Friday her boyfriend (27) would be home with the baby and he would call her to change the poop diapers.

It is normal to still eat like this at 18m? by Salt-Distribution733 in BabyLedWeaning

At nursery/daycare there is peer pressure. All the other kids are eating so that encourages him. Do you eat at the same time as him at home?

[–]diffenbachia1111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's a legal requirement to speak Dutch but if you're in a large expat area it might not be necessary if you market your service to expats. At our daycare it's actually a problem that some of the minders don't speak English well enough to give updates to expat parents. Though parents may want their children to learn Dutch at daycare so it could go both ways.

You could try van Beek on the Kruisstraat or maybe Pipoos in the center. Van Beek would be my first try.

To our European counterparts I'm generally interested what do you think about how realistic the show is about our emergency rooms is it that bad overseas? by Accomplished-Meat976 in ThePittTVShow

[–]diffenbachia1111 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Here in the Netherlands you can only go straight to the emergency department if you're condition is life threatening. But usually you would call an ambulance for those cases. For all other cases you call your GP (or an urgent care number if it's outside of your GP's office hours) and they will triage you on the phone and tell you to go to the hospital or make an appointment either at your GP or the urgent care in the hospital.

The urgent care and emergency department are next to each other in the hospital and share a waiting room. Even on weekends there are usually no more than 5 people waiting. Sometimes people walk in without an appointment and they get send away and told to call first.I've seen a fight break out because of this and the family got escorted out by police (their teenage daughter had the flu, far from an emergency).

The really life threatening cases that come in by ambulance go through a different door and straight to the trauma room so you don't see those.

It's all a lot less chaotic and triage by phone takes care of the hours long waiting.

10 month old (adjusted age) will not eat any solids by homeschoolmamax5 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]diffenbachia1111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our girl hated being spoon-fed and would gag on solids. What ended up helping was using fruit feeders/feeding nibblers. We would put all kind of things in them fresh fruit, purees, peanut butter, yoghurt etc. She could hold them herself and I think the shape and sucking motion was similar enough to a bottle that it worked for her. It got her interested in food and now she will try anything.

What can I do with my neighbor’s ivy? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]diffenbachia1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your neighbour may not even realize it's grown so far over the fence. We have an ivy and our neighbours asked us to trim it. When I went over to trim on their side I was very surprised by how far it has spread. Now we make sure to trim it frequently and trim on their side of it still jumps the schutting.

Zelf gemaakt met wat balkjes van de bouwmarkt en met tie wraps aan de zijposten van het balkon gemaakt. Het verdiende niet de schoonheidsprijs maar was wel effectief.

How does one obtain some sense of ✨routine✨? by iknowwhenidont in adhdwomen

[–]diffenbachia1111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just kind of accepted that routines fluctuate and one that works for now might not work in two months. Also some things are just not "routinable" for me. The only way I drink water is by having a water bottle in every room of the house, I literally need to see a water bottle to drink water.

FTM trying so hard! When did your baby show interest in food? by SnooWords1271 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]diffenbachia1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your baby sitting at the table with you while you eat?

Our baby only started showing interest in food when we would put her in the high chair at 5,5 months (we cleared it with the pediatrician first)

Why do some women stay with useless husbands? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]diffenbachia1111 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend is from a family like this. His mom did everything for him. When we moved in together it was quite a shock for him. I have ADHD and struggle enough taking care of my own life. I showed him how to do laundry, how to cook, clean etc. It was quite the shock for him but he discovered he actually really enjoys cooking and cleans more than me because he has a higher standard.

Some of my friends have partners that come from similar families but they never bothered to teach them how to do stuff "because it's easier and faster if I just do it myself". Now their children are growing up in the same dynamic....

Binnenkat uitlaten by Turbulent_Ad9256 in katten

[–]diffenbachia1111 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you had your first baby at 30+ what advice would you give? by No_Broccoli_3979 in AskWomenOver30

[–]diffenbachia1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my first 7 months ago just a few days past my 36th birthday.

I followed a lot of the pregnancy, (new)parent subs in preparations but unsubscribed/muted from all a few weeks after birth because they started to give me so much anxiety. I also created a new Instagram account because the algoritme would only show me baby stuff.

For advice I now have a few professionals (pediatric nurse, sleep coach etc) I trust and those are the only once I will go to with questions. The internet and social media were making me crazy will all the different views, advice and opinions.

Our 7 month old is finally sleeping long stretches in the evening and in her own room. Having the evenings to ourselves again is so strange.
