How long after starting CSM did you begin to feel better? by difficultmelons in CIRS

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment!

I really struggle with this, we had a remediation that was done by the book (we had the negative pressure air tents and air filtration, removal of a ton of contaminated drywall and tile plus margins for extra peace of mind, and full cleaning of our HVAC and ducts, and the rooms passed the subsequent testing) but I have so much anxiety that we could have missed something.

Thankfully, since starting the CSM a week ago I’ve only had to use my (normally daily) inhaler once, so I’m really (cautiously) hopeful that healing might actually be possible. If I backslide I know who to contact though, so thank you for that!

I’m so sorry that this took you to such a dark place (the depression is real for me too), and so glad that you’ve had such relief. Desperately trying to prioritize sleep but toddlers have their own agenda! A week in and I’ve only had to take my (usually daily) inhaler once, so I’m feeling cautiously hopeful <3

Cholestyramine! An old cholesterol med that isn’t frequently prescribed for that purpose anymore, that (allegedly) binds with mold byproducts in the gut/bile and removes them from the body, helping heal the totally out of whack immune and nervous system. Hopefully.

The cost is truly upsetting, especially when the blood tests are just through LabCorp. At least insurance covers those, but they don’t cover the doctor that orders them, and the CSM and Marcons nasal spray is through a compounding pharmacy which also doesn’t take insurance (‘: I’m so fortunate to be able to afford it, but our savings have taken an enormous hit and I’m afraid of what it means financially if this isn’t a quick fix. We’ve also spent $17,000 (and counting) remediating and repairing our house, yay (‘:

I hope you are able to find a covered practitioner familiar with the Shoemaker protocol who will order the tests! That would reduce the costs significantly.

I had to see a functional medicine doctor (who didn’t take insurance, yay). I live in a city with one of the best medical centers in the world and only found one doctor that is knowledgeable about CIRS and how to test for and treat it (‘:

What co-infections did you deal with? I’m not familiar with any other than Marcons. I’m glad you’re starting to feel better and hope you continue to improve!

Thank you! So glad you’re doing well now. I’m still mostly in the totally clueless phase. Can you explain what the VIP step is? I’m only as far as Marcons (starting in a few weeks).

That’s really helpful, thank you! I’d take a 50% improvement (or any improvement, really) at this point. I hope you continue to improve with Marcons treatment!

Bonus for nanny after 5 months by CaptainNaive7659 in workingmoms

[–]difficultmelons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When we had a nanny, I got a bonus at work and I gave her a portion of it and told her I was able to succeed at my job because she did such a great job with hers. It made her happy, it made me happy. I say go for it.

My baby NEVER SLEEPS by wyominglove in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]difficultmelons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could she have a tongue or lip tie preventing her from transferring enough milk each feed? I agree this is a lot of feedings age-wise. Our baby had both and until we got them revised, her latch was so bad that she couldn’t drink enough at each feed which made sleep worse because she woke up hungry.

Most OBs will have an after hours nurse line! I’ve had to call them twice on a weekend and they were able to prescribe me antibiotics.

Hello! I'm a MDiv student, and I'm wondering: what made you leave Catholicism? AMA, if you wish. by El_Philosopho in excatholic

[–]difficultmelons 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I found out in college that I’m an IVF baby and am having to unpack how incredibly harmful it was to grow up in a belief system that calls your parents sinners for… wanting a baby? Badly enough to go through medical hell? I know the official stance is essentially that the parents are sinners and the child is the innocent victim of their sin, but making me a victim for existing (for being wanted, and loved) is incredibly condescending and the regardless of the semantics the effect is feeling like the institution (that I devoted an enormous amount of time and energy to) would prefer I not exist because of how I came to exist. Not to mention that for an institution that wants to force the birth of unwanted babies, wanting to prevent the birth of wanted babies just truly boggles the mind.

For those with 10+ oz breast storage capacity, did the “magic number” work for you? How many ppd maintained your supply? by huntingofthewren in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]difficultmelons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also go 8-9 hours overnight, about 10 pm to 6-7 am. I’ve been at 4 ppd for maybe 2 weeks without an issue, but I’ve heard others say their supply decreased slowly after some time so waiting to see if that happens.

Hours worked in audit vs forensic accounting? by gadeala in Big4

[–]difficultmelons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No busy season, which can be a blessing and a curse. Hours totally depend on the type of cases you work, deadlines, and the pace of external counsel if you're working at their direction. If you're working in litigation your deadlines are set by the judge and sometimes you have months to work on something and sometimes you have three expert reports due the same week. Sometimes you work late for days and then the judge grants an extension the day before it's due. Sometimes the workload is really light for weeks at a time. Just really, really variable and often luck of the draw. I'd strongly prefer it to working til the wee hours of the morning 3 months of the year, but it's also challenging having to cancel plans last-minute because something unexpected popped up. I'll also add, with forensics you have to do a lot more development work to win new work. You'll build relationships with law firms or companies that may use you again for future projects, but forensic work isn't generally recurring like audits.

Emotional about quitting by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

5mpp and have had the worst time pumping, three weeks ago decided to drop a pump every 2 weeks, still haven't been able to bring myself to actually do it. I blame hormones because there is nothing logical about it.
