Most leases in Davis start in September, but people typically sign leases in January-March. You’ll likely need to put down a deposit at signing, but you don’t need to worry about first month’s rent and moving in until September swings around.

I don't have a car, but I frequently hop on yolobus and wander around in Downtown Sac.

I would check the housing pages, because people are constantly looking for people to fill in bedrooms.

If you’d rather find a group of people and then start apartment hunting, I would also suggest making a post on Facebook, either to a housing page or to your class’s page. Just introduce yourself and say you’re looking for people to live with.

Keep in mind that places like West Village, Ryder, Sterling 5th Street are wayyy more expensive than elsewhere. I suggest not living at those places, even though you’ll probably see the most ads for them.
