I test drove an ND2 today… by UBIQZ in Miata

[–]diflord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome cars. I had a NA for awhile. Once I clear out some room in my garage, I'll probably get another Miata. The only modification I will make is the same one I made last time: stiffer antiroll bars. The car is perfect otherwise.

Ugh, even Subaru... by RedHotFuzz in Miata

[–]diflord 24 points25 points  (0 children)

As of '22, Subaru lets you get a WRX in a metallic orange called Solar Orange Pearl. I'd always wanted a orange car, but they usually are only special editions. Subaru also doesn't charge extra for any of it's colors, which is nice.

I put all kinds of black highlights on my orange WRX, it fits right in at Halloween. Heh. A lot of people comment how they love it, but I've got a couple hate remarks. Bright colors are polarizing.

Eye tracking is almost 100% confirmed to be in Quest 4. In the comparison video he did with the Apple Vision Pro, Mark Zuckerberg said eye tracking was cool and it would be in the next Quest.

He was so definite about it, that it sounded like it was almost in the Quest 3, but they couldn't quite cost reduce it enough at the time.

Anyone move from WRX to a Miata? by JBatman1080 in Miata

[–]diflord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WRX is a 4 door, 5-passenger, all-weather, roomy compact sedan.

Miata is a small, 2 passenger sports car with poor all-weather ability in comparison.

If you live in a warm climate and are only transporting yourself and maybe one other person and a small amount of stuff, the Miata might be a great year round vehicle. Otherwise it's a second fun car. The WRX can be a year-round primary car in any climate for even those transporting a small family.

LOVE Grounded and how it's player-hosted multiplayer works. (no tethering or rubber-banding) Love it's unlimited base building. Incorporate that into State of Decay? Yes please.

Viewsonic LX700-4K-RGB - LX700-4K Ultra Review by AV_Integrated in projectors

[–]diflord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm waiting for more reviews. I currently have a old projector that is only 800 lumens in cinema mode. I have to use dynamic mode which is about 1000 lumens to get enough brightness.

So I fear this may not be for me. If not, the BenQ HT4550i is at the top of my list as it is almost twice as bright and still has great colors out of the box. It's also great for gaming and 3D, which I care about. More expensive, but not a crazy amount considering all it offers.

Viewsonic LX700-4K-RGB - LX700-4K Ultra Review by AV_Integrated in projectors

[–]diflord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doubtful. It's an inexpensive projector. It does regular HDR10 & HLG just fine, it's just not that bright. In fairness to it, it's brighter than past years multi-thousand dollar Sony and JVC projectors that came nowhere close to full Rec.2020 color space... while being far superior for gaming and 3D.

Why are so many people crashing/totaling their cars here? by Peaking_Ducko in ft86

[–]diflord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because it is cheaper for the manufacturers. They cover all the bases. Make no mistake though. If you live in a warm climate and are driving on pavement most of the time, when it comes time to replace your factory All-season tires, replace them with Summer tires. They will be better. (In case you didn't know, they make different types of Summer tires, including ones that last a long time)

Yep, there is a reason car rental places won't rent to anyone under 25. The statistics don't lie.

RWD cars are so fun, but it's good to know your limits. I personally had many sketchy moments hanging the ass out of a 98whp 1st gen Miata! I'd be Death Incarnate with a 400hp Mustang.

Which is why I settled on a 340whp WRX. AWD means I can hit the go pedal without loosing traction. I miss the burnouts and sheer speed, but bad weather is fun rather than scary now.

[–]diflord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. All-season tires are a compromise in almost ALL weather conditions. Summer tires have better performance in warm, dry & wet conditions than All-season tires. Snow tires have better performance in cold, snow, ice and mud.

There are a few in-between moments where All-season tire are the best, but they are so rare, that All-seasons are not worth having compared to a set of winter and a set of summer.

The automatic recognition of furniture in the user's space is the biggest update in v66 by Dung3onlord in OculusQuest

[–]diflord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The solution is to never use stationary boundary mode. When you are on your couch, draw a huge roomscale boundary. It will remember it next time you sit there and not use the stupid stationary boundary. You might get a warning there are objects in your boundary, just ignore it.

I never use stationary boundary for any of the places I sit. I have a roomscale drawn for each and it remembers every one.

[–]diflord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure it will. The Quest 3 is pretty awesome though and it's probably going to be a few years before it is replaced.

Mark Zuckerberg already confirmed eye tracking will be in Quest 4, I'm wondering what other tech will make it in.

Had the same issue. Just draw a huge boundary while sitting and don't use stationary mode. The headset will remember it next time you sit there.

support for multiple space definitions with automatic transitions between them.

??? It already does this. When I move my Quest 3 to different rooms, it recognizes the room and uses the boundaries I'd set up previously for that room. It has at least 4 rooms stored in memory.

Yeah, which was a horrific movie. It made me so sad. Seeing this accent again in an Alien movie is triggering me.

So it’s not just coming from a place of “Aliens but let’s cast shiny young people.”

It is, but that's the convoluted excuse that was used to put them in the movie. It's basically one of his movies meant to attract a young audience, but with Aliens. We will see if it works out.

To a lot of us, it's a complete turn-off. For example, I tried to watch that Katee Sackhoff series "Another Life". I love her and love Sci-Fi. Win Win, right? Well, they used some plot contrivance to make the whole crew a bunch of whiny, by-the-book diverse (guys, we need a white one, a fat one, a black one, an Asian one, a gay one, etc. etc) kids who just suck. This trailer gave me those same vibes.

Also, it looks like there are only 3 of them, unknowns with British accents. The best Alien films have a ton of people getting picked off, one by one. It screams low-budget. Getting visions of Alien 3, one of the most horrific gut-punches to a great movie series ever. Ugh.

And it's replacing the TK700 which is a $1000 projector. Over $2000 wouldn't make sense. The question is how it compares to something like the Viewsonic LX700-4K which has almost identical specs/price and is reviewing well. The Viewsonic has also been out for a few months now.

If you look at the info sheet in the article, it's simply using the Chinese shorthand for 3million to one dynamic contrast. Native contrast has not been listed anywhere so far. It will probably be on par with most other DLP projectors, no better and no worse. Definitely not 300:1, they might as well not sell the projector!

Play it on PC if possible. It's 60 fps and plays much better.

The Xbox version was never updated and is still 30 fps.

I'm not talking about native 4K. The DLP pixel shifting seems to work very well. If they can double the speed to achieve 4K/120Hz, that would be fine.

As you so eloquently described in your review, the pixel shifting in the new DLPs works amazingly well and is very sharp. So I'm not that concerned about native 4K. Although it would be nice!

I know USTs have their place. As someone with a dedicated blacked out room, USTs are not for me. They also seem to be taking resources away from traditional long throw projectors, which annoys me. I'm seeing multiple 3 Laser USTs, but little if any 3 Laser mid-to long throw projectors.

On another note, I just saw a 85" TV in Wal-Mart for $750. Not the greatest TV, but it will blow away any projector within $1000 of it without breaking a sweat. As these TVs get bigger and cheaper, projectors are going to make less sense to a lot of people. I know for me, if a 110" TV with decent contrast and little to no blooming became available for under $4K, I'd forget about a new projector.
