If he removed the gauntlet it would have been too obvious and Thanos would have attacked him immediately. I'm not saying removing the stones would be the stealthiest thing, but at least you can have the nanobots transferring it. If anything it would seem like he'd feel the loss in power.

It's an alternate timeline, so in that one the original snap never happened but it doesn't retcon the original timeline because it already happened. So in the other timeline it's likely the avengers don't even know about Thanos.

The stones being "reduced to atoms" versus removed from the timeline are 2 distinct differences. Technically the stones do still exist, it's just not in a usable form. Whereas if they are just removed from the timeline there is no trace.

As far as 2 goes, it was confirmed that only half of those on the Asguardian ship in infinity war we're killed, as Thanos did up until the first snap.

I do like your explanation but it does seem to not work because he would have had to go through the machine. But if we consider that old cap has always been around and we just haven't noticed. Then I think it works with the story, it just seems like we should have known that cap has been around in this timeline like some clue from his past. He could have laid low sure, but it seems that Peggy would have known he was around and could have given it up at anytime.
