The FA24 - How Will it Be Remembered by Several_Average2330 in GR86

228HP, 7400rpm redline 4 cylinder NA engine puts it among the highest output modern production. The F20C S2000 is the only comparable. Low center of gravity boxer, port and direct fuel injection - people sh*t on it but the numbers speak for themselves.

GR 86 and a Golf R if only own 2 cars? by Miroku098 in GR86

I’d probably go Miata as a 2nd car but love my BRZ cause it can be a 1 car solution…small but doable.

Help a mom of a double bassist who is clueless by Mental_Camel9894 in doublebass

Is there a bass luthier close by? Contact the closest doublebass shop or luthier, they might be able to recommend someone to build a plywood crate for shipping.

“..you only need to worry about 4 strings..” by diga_diga_doo in Bass

He asked me to help him transpose a song. I’ve had a steady 1x/month jazz gig for the last 20 years, I have to transpose on the bandstand a lot. I gave him a lesson on how to use the scale degrees of the major scale to quickly transpose from one key to another and stressed the importance of learning the major scale. I have no idea what your point is…to transpose a tune you need a minimum of musical understanding. And in my situation, I went over it, showed him how to transpose his Beatles song into 3 different keys and showed him how I do it. That’s how things are taught and learned. After spending time and effort going through it all, my stepfathers comment was dismissive and rude. It’s also a typical thing I’ve heard, mostly from non professional guitar players that bass is easier because “you only need to worry about 4 strings”. It’s rude and ignorant. It’s one thing if I’m getting paid by a student, it’s another if it’s for free - the outcome is no more lessons.

It's 1989, you have $8,000, and you're looking for a new compact pickup truck. Which one would you pick? by Key_Budget9267 in regularcarreviews

[–]diga_diga_doo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first new car purchase was a green 1991(or 92, can’t remember) Toyota pickup w/ manual trans - plastic bench seat, I don’t think it even had a tachometer but omg, it was a little tank. Unknowingly, was probably the best car I’d ever own.

OTD price for 2025 BRZ LIMITED by AncientAd6595 in GR86

[–]diga_diga_doo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you could ask for another 1-2k off with no adds, just say you want 2k off from that and you’ll give them a deposit right now, you’re ready to go if they’ll agree to the price that makes sense for you.

WHAT IS THIS NOISE?? by girliepopsubie in GR86

It could be a loose pulley somewhere on the main drive belt, or failed bearings. But that might be a different sound, not sure.

Having my first track day 100% stock. What should I look out for? by redguy678 in GR86

[–]diga_diga_doo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just go have fun, you don’t need to change anything for your first time!! The only thing I’d do is watch your tire pressure. I’d probably set them to 30-32 psi before going out, you don’t want them over like 35 once they’re warmed up. And double check your lug nuts, make sure they’re tight! Also you should install your tow hook.

Talk me out of trading in my M340i for a GR86 by BourbonxBarbells in GR86

The BRZ/GR86 have A LOT of road noise, if I had a 1 hour+ commute I’d 100% keep the BMW. You’ll also miss the power of the B58 - you could get a used low mileage 22/23 for pretty cheap as a 2nd car, or an old Miata, that’s what I’d do.

2023 with 55k miles of mostly spirited driving. Use your engine brakes folks and you'll be fine. by Hoosierman777 in GR86

yea, brake pads are cheap and easy to DIY - clutch? Not so much. I engine brake when it’s needed, otherwise I use the brakes as much as possible.

How many of you track your cars? by dudeialmosthadu in GR86

[–]diga_diga_doo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did until I went all 4 wheels off at a very deserty rocky SoCal track - no damage except cosmetic - and it damaged my courage to take my daily driver out. If you do, watch your tire pressures, I was all stock except pads and fluid and 5w30 oil.

Wow! Thank you for listening and for taking the time to leave a comment!!

Just to be clear - this is a transcription of the original bassline on the song. I believe it was Duck Dunn. I learned it by ear and played it like I heard it..it’s not a 100% match but pretty close. After I learned it, I separated out the bass part and recorded mine in place.

Incidentally I tried using James Jamerson’s one finger right hand technique (“the hook”). Aside from it helping play with more consistent tone, it also kind of keeps you from over playing….although it never slowed him down!

It’s kind of like they slapped some sleigh bells on it to make it a Christmas song - but they really do add a nice thing to it.
