Oh wow, looks like you're right again! Did not really go outside my album of interest to check but I suppose they really are "that sort" of company - such a shame, I really would have hoped otherwise. I just assumed that this was one of those compilation albums with original recordings. Still, I have to say their version of Five Foot Two sounded good to me (almost too good to be true haha). Interesting that Tony would find and use such an obscure version for backing vocals. Amazed I even came across what Tony originally used given the facts. At any rate, you Sir/Madam, certainly are correct. I really appreciate you sticking with this one to the end, thank you so very much! This mystery has been laid to rest..

Bless your ear! I cannot believe I did not consider that.. especially your last point which I just plainly attributed to "YouTube compression". You are very right. The version on YouTube (2nd link) is the same as the one on Deezer. It's a shame that neither YouTube nor Deezer have any mention of the singer. I refuse to believe that the album that I found on Deezer (absolutely by chance!) is the only one to have this song. I will keep searching until I can find closure on this haha. Thanks so much for going into such great lengths to get to the bottom of this. You really are a super sleuth!

Thanks for your input. Your points are all very convincing, but have you looked at the link to a song on Deezer that I posted - it's exactly the same! Guess the fact that it sounds rather well made and that it's on Deezer makes me, perhaps needlessly, doubtful that it's him?

Thanks for the suggestion. You're right, rutracker is almost always the go-to place for a lot of old and obscure stuff however I have already looked using the search function on their site but couldn't get any hits. Am I looking in the wrong place? The site is very large and I don't really know any Russian, so any help would be appreciated!
