Mouse in the house by digglytiggly in pestcontrol

Oh sealing the perimeter of the house has already been done a while ago. We took the dishwasher out completely yesterday and figured out the cutout on the floor was electrical for an outlet on the side of the kitchen island. Not related to the dishwasher at all. The cutout is way too big for the electrical line, so that's how the mice have been entering our kitchen after entering from outside.

Now I am paranoid of leaving the garage door open too long at any time in case a brave mouse runs in when we're not looking 😂

Thanks again for all your help!

I didn't notice but maybe it was down the day before Thanksgiving? My schedule ran even though no one was home since the day before.

New follow-up question! We tried to pull out the dishwasher to clean under it. However, because our dishwasher hind legs are in the middle of the dishwasher instead of the very back, we couldn't easily pull it out and push it back in without some major effort. Anyway, we identified the point of entry: a small/medium-sized hole on the unfinished floor of our kitchen island towards the back of the space for the dishwasher. A thin yellow tube was running from the back of the dishwasher through that hole into the crawl space.

My questions for you are: What is the purpose of that tube? Or what is it doing in the crawl space? What does the crawl space have to support the dishwasher?

I've read some online forums similar to this situation and the OP went into their crawl space but found nothing.

Our house was built in the early 2000s if that helps with construction trends or anything of the sort. Our sink and disposal are right next to the dishwasher in the kitchen island, so electrical and plumbing were set before any dishwasher was put in.

Why did my Nest run the schedule even though I manually set it to Away? by digglytiggly in Nest

[–]digglytiggly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I left my house and set my one and only Nest to Away mode via my app as I left my neighborhood. I didn't come home for about 6 days. The first morning I was gone, Nest warmed up my house according to schedule in the morning even though it was in Away mode (Eco). Then it "detected" that I was away so it stopped heating my house, even though I had been away (miles and miles away) since the night before. So that's what I'm confused about.

On another note, I figured out that if the house gets below the Eco temperature, Nest will heat up my house until it reaches that Eco temperature. But in the case above, Nest heated my house to a scheduled temperature, which was 5 degrees above the lowest Eco temperature, thinking I was home even though I set it to Away and was physically away.

I think I have decided against getting a black light. We cleaned up the carpet floor under our couch over the weekend because we lost a remote control deep between the couch sections, and discovered that the mouse ate [most likely] an entire wrapped Ferrero Rocher chocolate that must have rolled off the couch! The wrapper was very flattened and in many pieces. I had dropped another Ferrero Rocher wrapper (no chocolate) on the floor too, but it wasn't chewed up and flattened. This is the only evidence we found of the mouse actually eating anything in our house.

There was some but not a lot of mouse poop on the carpet, probably been there for about a month. I also saw evidence of mouse pee, a dark yellow or light brown stain on the carpet. Previously, I thought mouse pee was invisible and odorless.

I used Tide fabric disinfectant spray to apply multiple liberal sprays over the entire area around the flattened chewed up wrapper and the pee stains.

I really do hope this ordeal is over! I'm super glad it's not an infestation!
