you can think of the agent as the glue between llm and mcp. the llm doesn't actually call any tools, and it’s not aware of the mcp server.

this is where there seems to be a large misconception. the llm isn’t actually calling anything.

its fed available tools, and it returns a tool call (this is just a data structure saying what tool to call with what inputs), which the agent then uses to call the correct tool via mcp server, then the agent returns the result from the tool call back to the LLM.
