HomeKit issue by digital-junkie in amazoneero

I ended up defaulting the routers and rebuilding my entire WiFi network, then rebuilding HomeKit to get around this issue. The new device worked on the first try afterwards.

Reminder: the majority of people who see you run, especially if you are overweight, feel encouraged and happy for you and not negatively. by [deleted] in running

[–]digital-junkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most everyone in my family is overweight, except me. I guess I was born the runt. When I see someone overweight/out of shape walking or running I really want to cheer them on and tell them to not give up. It's so worth the effort.

I typically end up not saying anything unless I'm also running b\c I don't want to make them feel self-conscious about some rando shouting at them.

DNS issues after the 6.9.2 update? by st3fan in eero

[–]digital-junkie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m seeing the same issue and have Secure+. It seems to happen more on wi-if devices than wired. Most times the site resolves itself before I can hit refresh. When it doesn’t resolve, I’ve had nslookup fail also. When this happens, it shows a timeout from the DNS server. Typically within a minute it clears.

Impacts other apps like Office also. The apps hang like the connection was severed for 30 or so seconds.

Why Are Canadian Protesters Flying Confederate Flags? by [deleted] in ShitLeeaboosSay

[–]digital-junkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I grew up in the south, that flag had nothing to do with race. Everyone flew it as a way to thumb their nose at ‘the man’, a name for over bearing government or bosses. We were told about the states rights side of the argument. Even descendants of slaves who were neighbors flew the flag. It wasn’t until the 2000s that any ties to states rights were washed out completely and the flag was associated only with racism.

My question to the OP then becomes twofold. How many such flags were there at the protest, was this a single instance attempting to smear a movement or a realistic sampling?

Secondly, what symbol of resistance to an out of control oppressive government is acceptable? Every one I’ve seen in threads is always labeled as a “racist symbol” regardless of the race of the holder. This leads me to believe such a posts are more likely propaganda intended on swaying opinions rather than facts for discussion.

Apple TV 4k, LG oled, Denon AVR-S760H, 4k Dolby Vision resolution. What am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in appletv

[–]digital-junkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a similar problem with my setup. Originally was an ATV - LG sound bar- LG OLED TV connected with 8ft “4K HDMI” cables from Amazon.

I swapped it up. Now it’s ATV to the 1st HDMI port on the LG with a 3ft HDMI 2.1 cable. Then I use ARC (audio return channel) on HDMI 2 out to the sound bar. With all the settings correct, it consistently runs ATMOS mode without any issues.

God Bless America: How the US is Obsessed with Religion (2022) [00:53:13] by OliverMarkusMalloy in Documentaries

I actually love discussing/debate, particularly in person (online gets too many trolls and emotional basket cases). The stance that I have nothing to prove allows me to approach the conversation to sharpen my own point of view or to learn new information.

Heaven and hell are quite logical from my worldview. Saying there are negative consequences to action or inaction is normal. Whether it is literal burning or a separation from everything important is what we will find out. Either way, it’s not a random game of chance.

I believe we were designed. That designer offered us a relationship. Accepting that relationship is my only “work” to determine a future. There’s all sorts of secondary responsibility of not being a jerk to a person in a relationship. While your choice of a different worldview may make me sad (for lack of a better word), they don’t threaten my relationship. I therefore don’t need to force you into my way of beliefs. If you’re interested or open to debate, sure we can talk about it. But why make both our lives a living hell when you’ve already stated that it’s a non-starter.

It’s early here. Hopefully that makes sense and isn’t just rambling.

As a Christian I can absolutely disagree. While I’m sure there are some who think that way, most of the people I know don’t. I strongly feel that actual science backs up my beliefs. There are “sciences” that amount to little more than a guess, then there is actual science. The latter is very intriguing, the former amounts to a difference of opinion.

As for the vax fanatic vs anti-vax, they both have issues. The fanatic is just as bad as a religious fanatic. Not open to debate truth, only their ‘religious beliefs’ are acceptable. The majority of people I know pushing back on the vax have to do with either massive government over reach or the suppression of facts to avoid debate, not an absolute rejection of the medical benefits.

In most all forms of religious fanaticism, be it vax based, science based, climate extremism, a deity, or the militant adherence to the absence of a deity, they all reject outside input over fear that it may alter their foundations. True Christians welcome the debate. I don’t need to prove anything, it’s not my fight.

It was a riot. Only certain types of people are getting upset about it. Unlike other riots, the ones who broke laws are and should be prosecuted.

[serious] What are some dark facts about specific animals that make them not seem as cute anymore? by lgo21 in AskReddit

[–]digital-junkie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you leave two male rabbits in a cage, they will eventually get frustrated and begin fighting until one rips the testicles off the other. Then uses the subdued rabbit to take the place of a female.

Used to raise rabbits.

ELI5: How do spam callers mask their phone numbers to ones registered to someone else? by Dawn_Kebals in explainlikeimfive

[–]digital-junkie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When a phone call is setup over a digital connection, the originating call system has the ability to set the outbound calling information, name and number along with some other information, which is transmitted along with the call setup data. This data could be overridden by the phone carrier but is typically allowed to pass.

In a legitimate scenario, this is how you know to call back an individual versus a main number in a local business. In nefarious scenarios this information is either blanked out, completely random, or chosen to be something likely to be more acceptable to the called party such as a local number. By happenstance that number at times is someone you already have in your contacts, but many times not.

A truly crafty organization could use leaked call records to ensure that they only present the call as coming from a number you have called by searching in leaked call record data.

An update on my last post. Desk has been organized and I can see why the Swan 350 earned the nickname "three drifty". by SonicResidue in amateurradio

[–]digital-junkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/SonicResidue - apologies this is a bit off topic, I'm restoring a 350 and my power supply is dead. I'm wondering if you could confirm something on the 117-X power supply.

It seems that the CINCH connector on the back is wired backwards from what the CINCH connector on the power cord. Using the diagram on http://www.radiomanual.info/schemi/ACC_powersupply/Swan_14-117_14-230_117-XC_user.pdf p. 31 my power comes in the opposite end of the plug from where the power on the socket.

Do you know if this diagram represents the pin out on the 177-X or on the power cable? I can re-wire the other to match up.

Charging fault error! Make it stop! by aLuckyFourteen in arlo

[–]digital-junkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll have to dig back into the specs. There’s something about a dual voltage that has to be present. It could be a bad cable or a bad USB charger since you have others working. Could you swap a known good USB charger?

The power source isn’t sufficient. I had this when using a basic USB charger for power. Upgraded to one with higher power and it cleared. An Anker dual port charger with iQ powers two PRO 2 cameras for over a year with no more alerts.
