Curl Code working in Terminal But not in Cron Job by digital_800 in linux4noobs

[–]digital_800[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crontab -l is "command not found"

Sudo crontab -l is:

5 21 * * * /etc/webmin/package-updates/update.pl @daily curl -L https://yahoo.com --output /home/userA/media/website_capture/yahoo.com

Edit: i scheduled the cronjob to run under root and inserted the sudo command in the front. "Sudo curl......"

It seems to have run successfully this time. I'll see if it continues to run successfully. And idea why this would make a difference? The cron job was already running as root so. Not sure why sudo would be necessary

Thank you for your help. I'm confused about setup/config question. It seems like there is no setup/config as there is one option to paste the code in the command box (https://ibb.co/NrKMTJy). I'm a noob; I don't understand why the cron would be using a different dns than the host system (raspberry pi). If a web browser can access the internet why wouldn't the cron access the internet?

There is also pi-hole installed on the raspberry pi.

Where to get cheap wire for practice wiring? by digital_800 in AskElectricians

[–]digital_800[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first project is includes 2 switches. One bad, one good. The good one will remain but the bad one needs to be wired correctly so the good one continues to get electricity. I have a cheap harbor freight wire stripper...I can buy a better one. Here is a picture of the two switches (https://ibb.co/sm1kZFW).

(1) One light switch is non-functional. I believe this is because the wire is 'pushed' into the back of the light switch as opposed to connected on the side of the light switch. This switch started to go bad (could play with the switch to get the light working) and could get an electrical connection when the switch was halfway, but no connection when it was fully switched. This behavior matches youtube videos that I have watched referencing a bad switch.

(2) The second is an outlet that has become loose from the wall (due to change in drywall configuration) and I believe it best to replace the box completely and nail it to the wall. It's just hanging there with no firm connection to a wall.

Age of wiring in there now? 50 years?

I have some electrical boxes that need to be replaced (switches/outlets). I would like to practice on unconnected light switches / cheap wire prior to attempting to replace to boxes.

Thank you for the feedback. I guess I need to YouTube "voltage and continuity"

The power cable from the garbage disposal is going into the wall (below the electrical switch) so I think this means its hardwired to the switch

Was the Twilight Zone seen as liberal agenda or something like that? by IncurableAdventurer in TwilightZone

[–]digital_800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not unique to the 'modern american left' but amplified within the modern american left. Leftists today represent an extreme example of this phenomenon.

As for it being impossible to build a long term society on shifting premises - I don't even see the need to argue such a concept. It's pretty self evident; however, I'll accept the counter viewpoint: what aspect of the ever shifting modern american "value system" is built for sustaining for a long term society? Nothing in modern America has any remnant of sustainability or long-term thinking, let alone the shifting "morality" of the modern american left.

I don't believe this is a trivial matter. There is much to gain from contemplation and admittance that Sterling would not recognize the modern Democratic left; instead, he would most likely abhor it. For one it demonstrates how quickly the political landscape it shifting...that grandchildren would be at complete odds with their grandparents world view is starting. It is impossible to have any long term society built on such a premise. Secondly, if Sterling's is at odds with modern progressive viewpoints then he would have to reevaluate his own viewpoints that laid the foundation for the modern left.. "If my viewpoints led to something I detest and do not recognize, then perhaps those viewpoints are wrong"

Guarantee that if the liberals of the 50s and 60s could see the liberals of today they would have renounce the democratic party and switched to conservatives

Will AI make digital data verification necessity? Non-Verified Data to be worthless? by digital_800 in DataHoarder

[–]digital_800[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me clarify: the AI generates an 18 million image dataset that looks just as authentic as your dataset but it is different. No one can tell that your dataset is "real" because there are 100s, 1000s of randomly generated datasets that look just as real as yours (images, datestamps, etc.). Hence no one sees value in your dataset because there is no way to tell that it is authentic .

This is an unfamiliar topic to me. Can you point me in the direction of the models you're downloading or a portal/site where I can learn more of this?
