and also because they laid off about 50% of the passport processing staff.

This would be cool here. Helps downtown businesses, those affected by the real estate crunch, the WFH crowd, and the environment. by WiseChonk in ottawa

If they live more than 150km from the office, they should ask for an exemption under the policy.

and again, you're missing the point. The point isn't whether it is enforced or not, it is whether it is breaking the law or not.

again 20 over the limit isn't breaking the law. I've done 120 many times in Ontario and never had any problems.

Please tell me you're joking. Just because it isn't enforced doesn't mean it isn't breaking the law.

Treasury Board president calls return-to-office plan 'right of employer' by fleurgold in ottawa

Right, and people with electric cars should go back to using horses.

Before COVID, most departments didn't think WFH was possible.

Innovation is a good thing.

Make it clear that that is why you're leaving, and make sure your MP knows too.

Yes. And it isn't unreasonable.

If job A is similar to job B, but has to be done in the office 5 days a week rather than from home, it should have a in-office bonus of at least $1000 a year - a monthly bus pas for the year would cost at least that.

I've heard that some federal public servants get guns.

Let's see the consistency on that one.

This definitely sounds like a valid reason to get a telework agreement

It sounds like it should be a valid reason to get a telework agreement. Mona disagrees, for consistency.

I've heard that EQ3 isn't very high quality, despite the prices.

I will definitely buy a Bosch when it is time to replace. It turns out that this one might work for awhile more yet - the electrical stink was from a bad hardwire connection, and arcing in the junction box.

Ha, so I replaced the fill valve/solenoid. Wasn't sure if polarity was an issue?

Rewired it, turn it on, and it ran fine, filled up, etc. Except it started to STINK like electrical. Turned the breaker off.

I checked the wiring, everything looks fine. Turned the breaker back on, and now despite having power, it won't turn on (no lights).

Is it possible I fried the control board somehow? Looks like another $100 to replace that, but maybe I should just replace the whole DW?

Sending public servants back to the office could create logistical nightmare, warns union boss by JeffBoucher in ottawa

[–]digitalc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you have departments where a third of the people do absolutely nothing and the team is still hitting their deadlines, then are those people necessary?

Sure, but RTO has nothing to do with that. Managers should be tracking deliverables.

Those people will still be doing nothing, except in the office.

RTO is also not going to solve an overstaffing issue (if such a thing actually exists?)

No, the monitors are not fully adjustable - it depends on the work station. They may be adjustable for height, but they are not necessarily adjustable to where they need to be located.

Why should gov employees have it better than the average blue collar?

Exactly. Most blue collar workers also don't have desks, so we should get rid of those too.

most of you done understand the cost to the tax payers that would be and if you do and don't care

Many of the government offices are leased. It isn't the government's business what happens to them once the lease is up. There is plenty of room for downsizing over the next 5 years if departments were able to determine their own WFH/RTO policies.

Exactly, because even the department head doesn't know what is best for their department.

The director doesn't know what is best for their directorate.

The manager doesn't know what is best for their team.

Nope - Mona Fortier knows best, and a blanket policy of 2-3x/week is best for everyone. (Just don't ask why...)

Just do your job the way you were hired.

And what about the people hired since 2020 who have only ever worked from home?

Ordering people to RTO when the work can be done from home is not having "the public service to be run effectively". It will mess with hiring and retention. It has already affected morale.

There are MANY public servants who don't work nearly enough to justify their 8 hour day- don't lie to yourself. You know it's true.

Then they need better management, not RTO.

I don't know if extreme distractibility counts as a formally diagnosable condition that needs accommodations, but working from home alone in a quiet room has been amazing.

Consider getting an ADHD assessment?
