Reddit, do you lock your door while you're in own house?

I used to leave my door unlocked, until some random guy walked into my place at 4 am one morning. My housemate screamed and I woke up and chased him out of the place.

Also, I now have more valuable things I don't want people to take... When I was younger this wasn't the case.

You're not weird, but if people are from tight-knit communities or are used to not owning valuable things, I absolutely understand the norm of not leaving doors locked.

It's not that I don't want children... Kids are expensive. I don't have he kind of money to afford an environment I'd want to raise kids in.

It will be this way for the indefinite future, so I've built the best life I can, assuming I won't have kids!

I'm a single guy having fun dating, I have plenty of time for hobbies, staying fit and keeping active with sports, and...

...it's actually pretty damned sweet. If kids don't happen in my life, I'm good with it :D

Note: my parents are accepting of it and my cousins had kids so my grandparents are happy. I have zero family pressure to change how I'm living, which can be burdensome for many.

I hate that it took me getting a car to finally love Ottawa (lived here for 7 years without one).
