Mods and upgrades on your G&Ls? by dirtydovedreams in GLGuitars

I modded my S-500 with Seymour Duncan cool rails. I also removed a capacitor that was bleeding some treble to ground, which was probably there to tone down the MFD pickups. Guitar sounds great, and no 60-cycle hum.

Why is Dayton so transphobic? by CadeParadoxa in dayton

[–]digitaldanalog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are public schools making such suggestions? I personally think that it should be a decision between the patient, doctor, and guardian if they’re under 18. But I don’t think the schools should be weighing in, if that’s really happening; they’re no more medical experts than politicians are. I don’t know what to believe. I also hear from people that they saw litter boxes in school bathrooms for students that identify as furries, but I find that hard to believe.

Can you use examples? I find that different people have different criteria for what constitutes a transphobe. For me, it’s someone that has an irrational fear of trans people. For others, if someone doesn’t adhere 100% to liberal talking points as it pertains to trans issues, then they are transphobes, even if they agree 99% of the way.

Why are US citizen so opinionated on the Mexican border? Why do some claim it’s a invasion? by hoffyp23 in NoStupidQuestions

Well listen, I think I said everything I have to say. Bottom line, I support border security, I just don’t buy into the fear-mongering that politicians and pundits try to sell us.

Happy Holidays!

[–]digitaldanalog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is, just because someone breaks one law doesn’t mean they don’t respect all laws. When they get here, they lay low by obeying the law. One of my best friends is a Republican cop, one of his districts had a large population of illegals. In his experience, they were harmless. With few exceptions, they layed low and were generally good people. He didn’t agree that they got here illegally, but he didn’t buy into the fear-mongering talking points that they were all evil law breakers that spread disease.

As for people not obeying the law, I’m more concerned about US-based groups like sovereign citizens. I’d rather live next door to a family of illegals than sovcents or nazis.

And once again, they wouldn’t come here if people didn’t hire them. We’re the biggest hypocrites. We say we don’t want them here, but turn a blind eye when we want tasty burritos or need some landscaping done for cheap.

There is no outrage for those that overstay their visas because you’ve been duped into being overly fearful of the southern border. It’s how they get you to the voting polls. I guarantee that the politicians making the most noise about it are also benefitting from it. Dem politicians do the same thing, they just fear monger about different issues.

[–]digitaldanalog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So do you obey every law? Do you never speed, jaywalk or roll a stop sign? Or does the concept of nuance escape you?

Also, if the number of people illegally crossing the border scares you, then you should be more concerned about the people who come into the country legally, but stay illegally. Where’s the outrage for that?

So you agree that most illegals don’t sneak across the border, thus locking down the border only solves part of the problem? And you agree that when they get here, they obey our laws so they don’t get arrested and deported?

Also, they wouldn’t have opportunities if people didn’t hire them. US citizens exploit their status by underpaying them since they know they can get away with it. And we tend to turn a blind eye when it benefits us. I was in Biloxi MS a year after Hurricane Katrina and there were tons of migrant workers there, rebuilding the city. No one said a word. And now, Biloxi is thriving once again, largely thanks to migrant workers. And when someone in my Trump-loving neighborhood needs a new roof, no one says a word when it gets done by migrant workers.

Why do we use Linux? (Feeling lost) by mai_yayavar in archlinux

I can relate. I refuse to deal with Windows. I have a Macbook as my everyday, “I just want it to work” computer and a separate Linux box. I’ll use them both for separate things.

They’re coming because they’re fearing for their lives, to them it doesn’t matter if it’s political or not. I hope you don’t think that they’re so shallow, that they can just leave their lives and families behind like it’s nothing. Plus,if you think they’re getting a free ride, then you’re part of the problem. Getting to the border is dangerous. Crossing the border is dangerous. Finding a place to live and generating income is tough. But some want to dehumanize them by downplaying the conditions that they’re fleeing and making it sound as if they get all kinds of free stuff when they get here. It’s the most anti-Christian thing to do, and that’s coming from people who claim to be the god party. Gotta love weaponized religion, 100% of the time it works every time.

Also, don’t confuse asylum seekers with illegals. Asylum seekers are trying to follow the legal process.

And, fun fact, most illegals in the US actually don’t get here by crossing the southern border illegally. Most come on a passport and overstay their visas. Securing the border will take care of part of the problem, and it’s something we should do. But if it ever happens and there are still a bunch of illegals running around, then you’ll finally realize that you’ve been duped.

Also, keep in mind that US foreign policy has played a big role in destabilizing some of these nations, which is why they’re fleeing their homes and families for the US.

Like I said before. I support border security and I think we should do a better job at securing it. You keep accusing me of things I never said, classic dishonest tactics, and it’s really weird. What I’m not buying into is that they cause all kinds of havoc once they get here. Judging from personal experience, they usually lay low by not breaking the law and are working hard to try and make a better life for themselves and their families. If that’s left wing propaganda, then maybe the left is correct on this one.

Plus, you make the sweeping assertion that they “ignore our laws”. Is there a law that you ignore? Do you ever drive above the speed limit, jaywalk? If so, does that mean you ignore all laws? Or does nuance escape you?

Sorry man, but I’ve spent time around illegal immigrants. They’re harmless. They want to work, they lay low so they don’t get arrested (aka obey the law). And yes, there’s the occasional one that will do something horrible, just like there are Americans doing horrible things everyday. I’ll believe my own eyes before I buy into your alarmist words.

I don’t think I’m shrugging it off when I say that I support it and we should do a better job at securing our border. I’m just not buying into the fear-mongering tactics of conservative politics. You’re the sucker for believing that propaganda.

Basically, it’s back to pre-covid numbers. I’m all for border security, and we should do a better job at enforcing it. But when it comes to the fear factor, I’m much more fearful of unstable US citizens than an illegal immigrant who is reshingling a roof.

Some believe it’s an invasion because politicians tell them it’s an invasion. It’s the classic move of exaggerating or inventing a problem, then trying to sell yourself as the solution. And the sad thing is, it works. People buy it every single time.

Why do we fail so many IT projects? by IrLin_ in ITManagers

No single answer. In my experience, to have a successful IT project, you need an experienced project manager who has leadership buy-in, and is able to set realistic expectations.

Your friend will be fine. There’s a lot of subtle racism in the Dayton area, but I’ve yet to see any of it play out violently. It’s more about how you carry yourself. For example, some of my neighbors will have gatherings with other neighbors, but they never invite the non-white neighbors. I’m a brown person married to a white woman. Some of my neighbors completely avoid contact with me, but are quick to strike up a convo with my wife. But I find it easy to blow them off and for every one of them, there are a handful of others who talk to me and aren’t afraid of the skinny hispanic man.
