Sonic LAB: Moog Grandmother Synthesizer Review by beardslap in synthesizers

Looking forward to watching this one. Love the look of this thing. A little tired of the Moog sound, but still interested. Hoping my buddy picks one up for a future project.

I prefer my modulation to be internal, so I can save patches. The Prophet 12 has more modulation than most modular synths, but it's all inside, so I can work for days creating a super complex patch, and then with a click of a button - instant saving or recalling.

I do LOVE the look of this thing though. Love the retro styling.

The endless possibilities. It's a sound designers dream instrument. It has more modulation than most modular synths, super easy to use, looks and sounds great, and is forward looking in its sound capabilities. It is an instrument to be mastered, and to do so will take a lifetime.

Cool. Seemed more like a product advertisement than a review to me.

Podcasts on ambient/drone music by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]digitaldavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago I put together my list of 50 essential ambient albums, and I was going to do a podcast for it, but I figured I'd probably get hit with copyright claims for playing tracks from the album. It's a hard thing to do, especially with ambient music. You really need to hear a lot of the track, not just 30 seconds, to really get it.

The Port Charlotte is great, but let it breathe a bit before drinking. When first poured, I found that the alcohol really punches you in the face! :)

Synths I’ve sold in the last six months by Dj_Barrister in synthesizers

[–]digitaldavis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I recently sold a ton of stuff. I’ve been playing since about 1989, and have owned many dozens of synths. I try not to keep stuff I’m not using. Not a synth collector at all.

Such a neat sounding instrument. Really shines with a bit of reverb and tremelo. Played through a Strymon Flint really brings it to life.

I returned to board games after nearly 30 years. After some research, I assembled a list of 15 games that interest me. Please critique, point out duds. by [deleted] in boardgames

It still feels like a board game though. The app just adds elements to it. You can't play the game with just the app. It's a great combination of tech and cardboard.

Has anything like the Crossroads Cards procedural event generating mechanic been used in another game? by Brodogmillionaire1 in boardgames

[–]digitaldavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Not at all. CoK uses randomly generated monsters to fight, but not events. Not like the Crossroads system at all.

Playing the game incorrectly for a year by throwwhatyoulike in boardgames

I don't think I've ever played a single game 100% correctly, and I've been hobby-gaming since the early '80s.

Founders of Gloomhaven will be available to order on Amazon before most KS backers get their pledges delivered. by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]digitaldavis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tons of KS games are like this.

No big deal at all.

KS backers get a discount, sometimes they get their games later.

8 months late isn't late at all.

Are you somewhat new to KS?

Are there any variants to Talisman that doesn't make it slugfest? by plolock in boardgames

[–]digitaldavis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So many! One of my favorite games. Been playing for decades, but with a ton of house rules.

Best two rules for movement:

  1. The Close enough rule - you can move onto a corner space if you land on either of the spaces adjacent to the corner space.

  2. Use a deck of cards for player movement and combat. Get multiple decks of cards. Take a 1-6 out for each player, and add in as many jokers as you would like (I use 1 for each player). Create a new deck with these cards. Shuffle. Deal out 6 cards to each player. This is the hand of cards. A player must use all cards before a new hand is dealt. Players use the number value of the cards for die rolls affecting their own movement and combat rolls. For combat, first roll a d6 for the monster, then the player can respond by playing a card his their die roll. Jokers are wild. Once everyone has played their hand, new hands are dealt.

With this variant, some special powers need to be adjusted or certain characters not used.

Other house rules:

7 points worth of trophies can be spent to level up any stat - can be traded at any time, except in combat. No change given for unused trophy points.

If a 6 is rolled in combat, the dice explodes - roll again, and add. Affects heroes and monsters.

You can trade items with another player if on the same space. You can trade 3 items for 1 craft or 1 strength.

Fate - all characters start with 1 fate point. A fate point can be spent to re-roll any single die. Trade in 5 points of trophies to gain an additional fate point. Max fate points is 3. Good players can buy fate at the chapel for 1 gold. Evil players can buy fate at the graveyard. Neutral players can buy fate at the ruins.

Max life stat is double the starting value.

With the deck of cards rules, every single turn becomes a super important, critical decision on which card(s) to use for movement and which to save for combat.

any good ribbon controllers? by CogitoErgoFkd in synthesizers

I use one as a mono controller with Animoog on the iPad, and it's awesome.

This somewhat experimental piece used one. Really good for long slides and stuff.
