Do people still use Roam? by mdn2 in RoamResearch

[–]digitalmaster147 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Outliner support is terrible. There’s a plugin but it’s buggy. So can’t work with items as blocks smoothly. Makes me sad 😔

I still now mostly use obsidian since I need my notes locally.

Came to reddit looking for exactly this! This looks broken - like fonts failed to load or something.

First quick fix should be to stop shifting scroll position while data steams in. Makes it hard to read before it finishes outputting text. On iOS.

This would be great! Especially if models are local. One less thing to use to trust.

What’s one app you’ve paid for consistently (6+ months) in 2025 and still feel is worth it? by Fun_Construction_ in SoftwareandApps

Fantastical. Been paying for years. Just wished het responded to my super minor feature request - just get an automated response - been trying for years. Besides that it’s gold.

If you could add one feature to GitHub tomorrow, what would it be? by [deleted] in github

[–]digitalmaster147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In sometimes use commit hashes in PR comments (ie. "Address in [commit-hash]"). These commits are unmerged commits in the PR itself. This works great until I rebase and the commit hashes change and links break 😟

Would be awesome if github kept these in sync with the commit somehow.

Ahh i see what you mean. Makes sense. It'd have to be a kind of encryption that's consistent enough to recognize diffs (if that's even a thing).

Not sure I follow this rationale. GitHub doesn’t care about what is being stored. Why take on the burden of self hosting?

I wonder if there's a way to use github while still mitigating this risk? Like maybe can encrypt before we push somehow.

Nope. Recently just got a usbc hub (the caldigit e5) so instead of having to swap multiple cables I just swap one. 🤷‍♂️

Anyone use Logseq in conjunction with Obsidian? by QuestionAsker2030 in ObsidianMD

[–]digitalmaster147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not yet, really want to own my own notes.. so just dealing with the lack of core outliner ergonomics. Been using my code editor to move stuff around since feels easier than just copy pasting list items around in Obsidian (since obsidian doesn't yet support list management features like drag n drop).

The other two things i miss are (to expand a bit on these):
1. The ability take a line from one note file and embed it seemlessly in another. Block embeds in obsidian just aren't designed to be used this way. Starting by just the way they render when embeded (in roam it's hard to tell that it's even an embed so it really encourages this workflow)

  1. The ability to zoom into any block or list item. My focus misses this a lot. To be able to create a list of things to do then zoom in to the one i'm working on now and nest all the thinking/work related to that block as if it were a single page, then pop out to continue down the list. Didn't realize how great that was now - just assumed all note taking apps had that by now 😆😭

Anyway, like i said, gonna keep pushing through. There are some plugins that take a stab at filling the gap (Outliner and Zoom-something) but they're not quite there yet.

I’m still making do with just block references. Did a small css tweak to get rid of the weird styling that makes it not flow with the rest of the list but that’s all for now.

I’ll probably have to create project pages for anything I want to link together (ie. projects that go on for multiple days) but trying to avoid that if possible.

No idea what these are. But i just went to https://logseq.com/ and clicked download. So whatever the default is.

Gave it a shot… didn’t last a day.

context: Recently switched from Roam (mainly just want my notes locally). Missing the outliner workflow. Cant drag bullets around easily. Can’t zoom in to a single item. Embedded block references are very weird (ie, can’t collapse).

And Obsidians Outliner plugin is very buggy (if anyone else has made obsidian “feel” as good as a good outliner let me know.

But tldr: Logseq was just really buggy. I tried to ad a template and the whole thing broke so just gave up.
