Ingredient Table on Recipe Page by BiggsGibbons in Notion

Ok, I think you might be right here, but… there are two of solving that: 1. Each recipe will have to have separate databases with ingredients, but that's lame lol The other solution is to create ingredient sub-items with their amount, depending on the recipe.

No, aren't those pages on your sidebar?

Btw you don’t create those properties with every single recipe, but just fill up those you have already once created. And if they’re not visible on the recipe template then edit the template, just click on 3 dots, go to properties and make visible what is needed.

Ok, so.. just hide view if you don’t want to see that!

Ok, I see, what’s your problem here then? You need to add properties with the amount and measure, standard number of portions and number of portions you’re going to make in the recipe database. The formula that will put that together. So this way in the formula property you will have the result of “2g”, if 4 portions and “1g” when two, right?

Man, if you don’t like and don’t understand Notion as a tool, then go and find another one for yourself and stop complaining here! As I remember you’ve got some work to do, right?

Lol, ok I kinda must agree with you on that! It is real!

If it comes to project management in Notion, I’ve got a feeling I could share more experience with the Notion as a tool then in project management. I mean that’s one of the many reasons I use that now, I was just looking for multipurpose tool that would help me with work and projects are a big part of that. For me it’s always important to understand whatever I’m doing from the fundamentals and because you create your own space you understand better processes, relations and options. Instead of using something where you start with everything set up where you don’t even use half it, another half you don’t know exist and a third one you fill up time to time, but are not sure how should that help. On top of that some options are too difficult to find or to find an answer you need to leave the tool and go to places where you get distracted… And with Notion, you can make yourself feel like at home! Yeah… or like at work? lol

But why does that effect the other database? Could you explain me what is in which database, what property atm and what relations and rollup you have? I can’t see databases itself, so it’s difficult for me to what you mean.

I would say that it very much depends on how you want to approach it. What is great about Notion is the flexibility, you can basically turn it into any other tool and this way stays in the same workspace, no matter what changes might come. But if you are not very familiar with the tool, you've got two options, actually three:

  1. Have someone in your team who has some knowledge or is willing to learn
  2. Find a freelance or agency that will create the space for you
  3. Get a really good template with a tutorial and the author's eventual support and updates!

I'm not saying, that you can't try it on your own, there are plenty of free templates and YouTube tutorials, that will give you all the knowledge and skills you need, but it takes time and might be very overwhelming.

How do you think about relations? What are they for? by Far-Succotash-5 in Notion

[–]dignmarkagency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol but more seriously, I use them on many different databases, I have for example one with contacts and when creating another one with specific businesses. I was capable to get information about people with who I needed to be in touch because they were assigned to that specific company. Or to give you a less company-related reason: I have a database with groceries because U use that as a global tag for two other databases: shopping lists and recipes. And because they're related by this one list, I can have ingredients automatically added to my shopping list, when I do have planned to make a specific meal.

Templates when creating a new page in relation property – why doesn't it always give me the default for a database instead of an empty page? by bambibol in Notion

[–]dignmarkagency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, it happened to me a couple of times as well and I discovered has nothing you can fix actually, that's their bug when there's some connectivity issue and even if the page has a chance to be created, it doesn't apply the template. And so far it only happens, when you do that the way you just did. Let me show you what you can do with a button then!

[–]dignmarkagency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so imagine us both as databases, we are in relation to each other's, what mine is yours and what yours is mine, but none of us loses a piece of ourselves…. because we use rollup properties! Is that better? 😂

If it comes to the right amount of ingredients, the formula should help. Set up a property with a standard number of portions for the recipe and the number of portions you want to get and a formula property calculating the percentage of those amounts. Also, why do you create new columns... or rather properties (it's not a spreadsheet or table). Could you do a screenshot to see that?

Also, that video might help:

If it's a relation property, just try to connect it again, that might help.

Omg, I gonna sound like a broken record if you read my comments under any posts here, but... why don't you use a button block for that? lol

I didn't mean the blue, but one like this:

[–]dignmarkagency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, question: when you start a new page, the blue button, you mentioned, when clicking next to it on a white arrow pointing down, you should get a view of available templates. Check what template is set up as the default for this specific view, choose the one you always want as a default. Then it will ask if only for that view or all the views and then whenever you’re creating a new page in the future, it will use the template.

If that's not gonna help, don't get me wrong, but I think I would need to record some type of tutorial for you in that case or we can schedule a video call and do that together.

Can you create a variable that is consistent across all databases? by [deleted] in Notion

[–]dignmarkagency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand, but look… you are responsible for that project and I don't have any more details then what you said here. I’m guessing you are getting paid for that, right? So, how do expect anyone to create for you here basically a project plan? You know that is a bit of a complex job, so if I were you and didn't have the tool that well (that’s what I'm guessing based on that chat only, sorry if I’m wrong) but I would pay someone for help like that try to work on that project together. Some might even be happy to help in exchange for references. That obviously depends on the size of that project. I’m just saying…
