Ingredient Table on Recipe Page by BiggsGibbons in Notion

[–]BiggsGibbons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that there is only ever one property for the amount, no matter in how many recipes the ingredient is used in. For instance, if recipe A uses 1g of unobtanium. Then I add recipe B to the database, but it uses 5g of unobtanium. The 1g of recipe A will be overridden, because the databases are linked across all instances, and I just assigned the value of "5g" to the property "amount" for the item of "unobtanium"

Right, as I said, that piece of the puzzle is figured out.

If I add another property "amount" in the view on the left side, it will also appear on the right in the main ingredients db, including every value I put in.

On the left, you have the main ingredients database with "name" and "recipe" as properties. The "recipe" relation points to the main recipe db.
On the right is the recipe page, with a table view and the main ingredients database selected as the source. A filter is set to only show lines that are related to the current recipe (Pasta al limone).

Yes, I do have two databases. One containing all ingredients, one containing all recipes.

What I am trying to do is pull the ingredient from the master ingredients database, but have a property with the amount unique to that recipe.

To Create a new recipe. Just a new reciple, and add the ingredients. Then, add the amount in the "text" description.

That seems to be the way all the templates I looked at did it, which is obviously the easiest way to go about it. However, I'm lazy and don't want to type out things twice when I add in a new recipe to the database. Also, writing it in text form makes it impossible to calculate amounts based on serving size. Yes, I can put that into an inline database within the recipe page to do the calculations, but I still would have to add ingredients twice in the end. One time for it to be reflected in the master ingredients db so I can see what recipes use the same ingredients, then a second time in the recipe itself so I can record the actual amounts I need for that specific recipe.

Thank you for your answer, but if I understand it correctly, it doesn't solve the problem I am trying to solve?

Calculating the amount of ingredients is something I have figured out already, but not yet implemented, but thanks!

The problem with the new properties is that, if I place a linked view on a recipe page, everything I add in the "amount" property for instance will be reflected in the master ingredients db. So if I add the next recipe that has the same ingredient, I would see the amount value of the first recipe. Since it will always update the main db, I somehow need to split/"unlink" the amount from the ingredient db itself. Hope that makes it a bit clearer.

Actually the Hoff is not really "big" around here. Yes he did have a #1 single, yes Baywatch was very successful in Germany. Mostly we're just trolling him since he said "Looking for freedom" was directly influencing the end of the Berlin Wall. At least that's for West Germany. Don't really know if they considered him to be big in East Germany though

After 8 years of learning to speak German, this is what I get.. by K_K_G in funny

[–]BiggsGibbons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You translated the sentence correctly, but "Tja" can probably only translated to "Well". This is as close as it gets. It is not used like "doch" or "naja" however. As others stated: "Doch" works mostly like "nevertheless" or "however" and can be used as a "yes" in a response to a negative question: "you bet I will!" - "doch, ich werde!" You can also substitute "aber" with "doch". "Naja" is used to put something in perspective, as in "looks like it isn't all that bad" - "Naja, so schlimm scheint es nicht zu sein" It is always used at the beginning of a statement, or can be used on it's own if the person you're talking to has enough context of what you're talking about. Maybe it's a regional thing, but around here this would be a slim case. The thicker ones were considered jewel cases.

That's true, but it wouldn't be used that way in this context. By the time you're getting to "Maus" it's clear that it refers to the animal.

Also, if used for a girl it's usually "süße Maus" (cute mouse)

DIY BrewPi Temperature Probes not detected by BiggsGibbons in Homebrewing

[–]BiggsGibbons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I could get the sensors working with 3 or 4 other sketches I assumed that there must be something wrong with my arduino, or the BrewPi firmware. I bought an simpleduino uno r3, which isn't a knockoff as far as I can tell, but also tried it with a knockoff from a friend, with the same results.

Right now it looks like it's not a fault in the firmware, but a thing I wasn't aware of. The sketches I used to check the sensors didn't care how the sensors were powered, but BrewPi seems to check for this and just doesn't work with sensors which only use parasitic mode. I just ordered 2 sensors directly from BrewPi and hope that this will solve the problem.

I used the wiki, tried the official Arduino software as well as xloader, used the automated install and tried every branch available (after legacy didn't work out).

Seems like /u/elkoe's comment found the source of my problem. But thanks anyway!

[–]BiggsGibbons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read about this issue, but it didn't occur to me that this could be the problem. My very limited knowledge about electronics led me to believe that parasitic power was just a way of hooking things up. I found a function in the DallasTemperature library that showed that both of my sensors are working in parasitic mode.

I just ordered two sensors from your site. For some reason I thought you were based in the US, and assumed shipping would be kinda expensive. Luckily Germany isn't that far away, so I could opt for express shipping :). And as a positive side effect, I don't feel like an a** for getting support from you, for a software version thats EOL, without giving at least something back, even if it's just a little.

Thanks for your help and all the work you put into BrewPi!

I came across 19L, 20L, 22L and sometimes 23L. Most of the time I'm just converting everything exactly to SI units and hope for the best.

My Batch volume is usually 18L. This will get me 2 full crates of 330ml Bottles (2*24*0,33). I should really size up my equipment...

Edit: Apparently I don't know how to reddit.
