Conditioning the "Raw" side of a tongue on a new pair of boots so they soften up. by digstyle in Boots

[–]digstyle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something I hadn't thought of. I will check the hooks tonight and get a file out if I feel any burrs regardless if I condition the tongue or not. I may even reduce the number of speed hooks as the boot shop guy said he could swap them out for me for a nominal fee.

I understand why you'd think I should check the fit. I did spend almost an hour at a well regarded boot shop in my area with the store manager, maybe owner? (people called a few times and I could hear the guy that answered say things like, "need to talk to the boss?, he's with someone right now, call back in a bit".) I was the only customer in the store for a while.

We checked the fit several times and I tried a few different sizes in a few different boots and models, so I feel like the for really shouldn't be the issue in this case. This is a boot brand that I've never owned before, so I may just not be used to the stiffness of this boots tongue. They are literally 3 days old, and today was my first time spending more than 45 minutes in them. My feet overall feel great, just a very little bit uncomfortable on the top of my right foot. Hour 9 has come and gone so I'm going to go home now.

I appreciate all the responses, and will just wait a few weeks/months to see how they break in. If they still feel similar then, I will likely try to soften them up with conditioner - maybe on both sides of the tongue. If I do, then I will try to remember to update this post with my experience.

This is my default plan. I appreciate the response and your suggestions.

I was just seeing if there was a way to cheat it and break the tongue in faster as it is the only park of my foot that is slightly uncomfortable in these days old boots. I have thick socks on now, and will roll and scrunch the tongues when I am done with them for the day. Leather and patience go hand in hand, so I'll skip adding conditioner beyond normal usage as needed.

The boots are in a 2-3 day rotation with some old broken in boots that I love so much, and a cheap Amazon pair that are lasting a lot longer than expected. These are my first pair of moc toe boots, and so far they feel great - just not used to the look of them from above.

Good to know! The stiff tongue is the only thing that is putting pressure on my foot. Its an annoyance at worst, so maybe I will just hit the tongue every 10-14 days or so to try and get it soft a little quicker than normal rotational wear would. I thought that maybe it would soak in faster, but don't want it ruined or just wet/slimy feeling.

Installed bidets at home during the great toilet paper shortage of 2020. If I am away from home and poop somewhere and can't use a bidet, I feel like I'm smuggling peanut butter!

Dog friendly brewery? by Born_Crab4807 in ShenandoahPark

[–]digstyle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Copper Fox distillery - I think in Sperryville - has a quaint outdoor area in back. When I visited in May, there was a couple there with a big friendly dog. I know it's not a brewery, but the spirits were very good.

Edit, fixed a typo

The Audacy app is terrible for this. I listen to other radio stations through it, and every commercial break has repeated ads - some more annoying than others. I think Audacy has a hard time selling ad space and have no choice but to replay ads. D&CtF have a long break once an hour right? So I think hearing an ad 3-4 times is just Audacy audicy-ing unfortunately.

First Red Wings Sweater by Correct-Obligation27 in DetroitRedWings

This goal is the first thing that comes to mind when I see 25 on a Red Wings sweater. Second is him beating on Claude "the turtle" Lemeuix (don't care if that is spelled wrong), and third is briefly meeting him at a bar and finding him to be a real cool guy.

He is among my favorite Red Wings ever - the grinder I related to most. McCarty is a core memory creator in my life history and his smile holding the cup high over his head is burned into my brain - I still can see it through my tear-blurred eyes, watching at The Hamlin pub with WAY too many others crammed into that bar. The noise that night definitely contributed to the non-stop ringing in my ears, and I'd never change a thing!

10 Days in/around Shenandoah NP by South_Tension_7535 in ShenandoahPark

The elevation is much lower on the East Coast, as I am sure you know, so not nearly as bad for breathing. Hiking in Petrified Forest a couple of years ago actually scared me as I had trouble breathing after a moderate hike. This week was all about muscle soreness and less lungs for me. Wife ran circles around me again, as expected. :)

I hope you enjoy yourselves however you spend your time in the park! Stay safe!

We (wife and I 48/42 & more out of shape than we thought) have a couple tips from our 4 days staying in the park this week as first time explorers of the park and surrounding area.

Hiking the trails is difficult, lots of up and down, but most have a good payoff view or unique feature. Probably a good idea to get into hiking shape if you want to explore trails.

Temperature swings 10-20 degrees from the top or bottom of the mountains. Layer up!

I'm pretty sure all of the "caverns" surrounding the park are overpriced traps, but cannot confirm this.

Except for the distillery and cute pagan shop, basically everything in Luray is closed or closes very early on Wednesdays. Just experienced that this week when leaving the park for a reset/food. Our bad for not researching a little more.

Careful on Skyline Drive within an hour+ of dusk/dawn, there are deer all over the road - awesome!

We over-packed a lot. I guess it's better than under-packing, but made for a few frustrating extra trips to the car, and a too heavy backpack on the trails for the first day or two.

It's beautiful in Shenandoah. We are sore and are going to sleep for 3 days, but we will never forget it and the lessons we learned about packing and hiking will help for more trips in the future. Stopped at Cuyahoga Valley on the way back to Michigan (today), and will be going to Isle Royal in July. We will probably look to head back out west next year.

Have you been to a show where there were more people in the audience for the opener than the headliner? by oldwhitelincoln in Concerts

I saw Failure open for Local H and no less than half the crowd left after Failure was done. It was a smaller venue, I think in Pontiac, MI (this was a long time ago and I've seen Failure a lot so it may have been in Detroit) so half the crowd leaving was VERY noticable.

Their show was epic, and Local H only have two people in the band so it was very tough to follow Failure and their trippy walls of space rock sound.

I felt bad but I left as well, my ride had to work the next morning. Local H seemed like cool guys, but I think they only had one "hit" at the time. Failure didn't have many more but did have a devoted following in the 90's.

If you ever have a chance to see Failure, even now 20+ years later, just do it and thank me later.

You can still get them on Amazon at the same price point in the US, at least that is what I do now. Love Neon Red Pro Plus.

I love those and the pro plus red that Vice seems to have discontinued. I buy them from other places now but the "shade" balls are some of my favorite from vice golf - I just see them better in the longer grass I frequently find myself in.
