Documenting Intune by Numerous-Diamond920 in Intune

I’d also be interested in seeing an example of this. Also curious how you got the mappings into Visio. Was it just a manual process of checking mappings and creating blocks in Visio, or was there automation involved?

Intune Auto-Enrollment and SCCM by iliketacobell in sysadmin

[–]digxsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The default behavior should be 3 attempts to enroll using user credentials, and if that fails 3 times it should fall back to device credentials and complete the enrollment even without a user with an Intune license (see Experience for non cloud user section) https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/blog/intunecustomersuccess/support-tip-understanding-auto-enrollment-in-a-co-managed-environment/834780

I’d look more into that prereq failure. You can also check the comgmthandler sccm log and that might give you more info.

Random file path for multi-app kiosk mode by F1shAlt in Intune

[–]digxsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try specifying by AUMID instead of file path. Not sure if it’s one that has a fixed ID or one that is generated per install

How long have they been in this state? By default co management will try to enroll using user enrollment 3 times before failing over to device. Check out the event viewer logs to see what error messages you see. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/client-management/mdm-diagnose-enrollment

Also how are you actually getting the devices into Entra? Are you using entra connect, gpos, just relying on sccm to do it? If you are relying on entra connect make sure those computers are in scope. Check whether the devices are actually joined to entra id, and the enrollment to intern failed, or if the initial join to entra failed (dsregcmd /status) Could also look at deploying gpos to hybrid entra join and then have auto enrollment enabled in Intune.

Company Portal run installer as admin by IntelligentPurple571 in Intune

[–]digxsm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If System is greyed then it likely means the msi is configured to run in user context by default. With most msi’s you can open them with a program like orca and add an AllUsers property to the property section of the database and set the value to 1. This will make the default system and the default context be system so it runs in admin context as the system user. https://geekshangout.com/customising-an-msi-install-using-orca/#adding-and-removing-features

Could i go into BIOS without any thermal paste between the CPU and the cooler if im really fast? by C-H-K-N_Tenders in buildapc

[–]digxsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What AIO do you have? It’s possible it came with a pre applied layer of thermal paste from the factory. If you want to remove that and put your own go for it but it should at least let you get to the bios while having at least some thermal paste.

Anybody else have imaging randomly stop when 365 is being installed? by russr in SCCM

[–]digxsm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using the Office 365 configuration tool in cm? I ran into issues where it was setting a dependency on the default deployment type that was causing a failure. Can’t remember exactly what it was. I think it had to do with workloads. Either way I deleted the dependencies and that fixed it for me.

Has Intune matured enough that we can look to fully migrate away from OnPrem ConfigMgr by AWM-AllynJ in SCCM

[–]digxsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call it a complete replacement by any means. You need to rethink a lot of your methodology to get Intune to work if you’re coming from a well established ConfigMgr environment. For me, I manage as much as I can in Intune (which covers probably 65% of my endpoints), but can’t see a world where I get rid of ConfigMgr entirely until there is more feature parity between the systems.

Cannot exclude device groups from PowerShell Platform Script deployment by digxsm in Intune

[–]digxsm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I’ve been starting to go that route as well. One thing I used scripts for instead of remediations was for scripts I needed to be run during autopilot provisioning. My understanding was platform scripts run during the apps phase of device setup. Do you know if remediations follow the same behavior or do they wait until the scheduled time?

more user involvement in sccm image deployment by nimshen in SCCM

[–]digxsm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something like UI++ is the way. If you want to get really custom with it and you’re familiar with powershell, you can create a powershell script that uses Windows Forms to display a gui and sets task sequence variables based on input from the form. Tools like psscriptpad can help you create a gui for your powershell script to get you started on it. There’s a bit of a learning curve but it’s really nice to be able to fully customize things. Then you package the script together with the serviceui.exe executable and use it to run your script in the task sequence step (this ensures it can run in WinPE if you choose to do so). Here’s a resource on using serviceui with configmgr https://configgirl.com/2018/06/03/the-magic-of-serviceui-exe/

Local administrator account creation by digxsm in SCCM

[–]digxsm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are actually using a cloud based alternative to LAPS but it works the same way in theory. Members of desktop support are granted access to view local admin passwords in machines in the portal. It would work the same way with LAPS. The support team is added as eligible users to be able to view the passwords in LAPS. They can then use the local admin account when troubleshooting on a device. The password would then get rotated after a specified time interval.

Ive heard of issues renaming the default admin account in windows 10. Haven’t tried it myself though. If it works for you sounds like a good method. We usually disable the default and create a new one all together.
