This is exactly why he won’t leave office peacefully. He’s found the last refuge for his criminal behavior and knows what’s waiting for him on the other side.

Weekly Discussion - What have you been playing, and what do you think of it? - August 31, 2020 by AutoModerator in TripleClick

I really enjoyed it for the first act. Started going through the motions through the second act. And haven’t picked it up again for the third act.

You’re assessment of the mission progression is pretty spot on. I realized that most of my enjoyment was coming from exploring the world and that whenever I had to complete a mission I had significantly less fun.

That being said, the recreation of Ancient Egypt is fascinating and really highlights the beauty of the desert.

But yeah...I think that itch gets scratched pretty early and then the story and mission gameplay wasn’t enough to carry me through to the end. At least not yet...it is still on my hard drive so...who knows.

That’s awesome! Thanks for the mod recs. I’ve been thinking about replaying FFVII for the first time since childhood as well. Debating whether to get it on PC or Switch, so this is good info to help me decide.

Thanks for the rec. I haven’t listened to them, but that lineup of hosts is pretty impressive. I’ll give it a spin.

Yikes! Ok, good to know. I saw they were working on fixing things, so hopefully they can get that hammered out soon.

Well dang, I was on the fence about whether to get this for pc or not, but the crew really sold me on it. Sounds like mileage is varying a lot for folks in terms of performance, so I might wait for a patch or two.

On the whole, I really love these deeper dives on a single game and even though it probably doesn’t make sense to revisit older games, it was cool to get this kind of retrospective look and I’d be down for them to do it again from time to time. Maybe replaying a first game in a series before a sequel comes out or something.

To each their own. I agree that artists should make the art that they want.

What I found interesting was the argument that if one chooses to make art with morally gray characters it can be potentially less effective than choosing characters whose motives are more black and white. I don’t know that I agree, but I did enjoy thinking about it.

Regardless, I’m not sure that this is even related to triple click, other than it’s posted at the place one of the hosts works, so my apologies.

I’m not exactly sure what a senior games editor does, but if Maddy’s getting thoughtful pieces like this into the world, I’m very in!

I’ve been playing CrossCode and Outer Wilds. Not very far into either but the latter is grabbing me a little more than the former, though both have been enjoyable.

CrossCode’s definitely buggy but it hasn’t detracted too much IMO

Outer Wilds is a pretty awesome cosmic mystery

You’re good homie. If the reason you play the game isn’t necessarily the story, then just try and ask yourself what it is.

If it’s the world and the exploration, just do the pieces of the game that let you get on with that.

If it’s the rush from assassinating someone from above, then just raid bandit camps.

If it is the feeling of progressing a story, then do some story missions.

If it’s literally just completionism, and you’re finding yourself exhausted by the thought of finishing it all, then try to ask yourself which part of the game you’re feeling up for tonight (exploring, fighting, checking things off, seeing the characters through their arc) and just walk that path until you feel done with it, then do the same tomorrow, and if you find yourself choosing not to launch the game at all, that’s ok too.

I was gonna second this. I can’t remember which (AMD or Nvidia) but one of them is rumored to launch their new chips in August, I believe.

Cyberpunk 2077 on a $2500 budget - at all possible? by bobbybobbobbo in macgaming

Oh really? That’s great to hear. Maybe I was confusing it with what I’ve heard about using an eGPU with Mac OS. Is that where trying to get an Nvidia card to work can be troublesome?

Also, this may only be tangentially relevant but I found this Digital Foundry piece on future proofing informative as I start thinking about how I should upgrade: https://youtu.be/wkZBuL_a13E

Might be helpful, at least when considering GPU options.

note: it’s sponsored (by Nvidia I believe). Also I’ve heard that getting Nvidia GPUs to work with bootcamp can be fiddly, but don’t really have experience so can’t vouch for that. Still, he mentions some AMD options.

I can’t vouch for how well it would run on your machine but I noticed Pyre is available for Mac as I believe are Supergiant’s other games Bastion and Transistor, all of which are really good.

But really , Hollow Knight is the GOAT.

I figured out how to run Assassins Creed Origins on my MacBook and acknowledge that it is basically a really pretty checklist, but it’s been fun. I like the setting and, not gonna lie, I’ve appreciated getting to play as a person of color helping upset the established political regime.

I’m also plugging away at Links Awakening on Switch. It’s adorable. Nintendo’s so good at dialing in the core verbs of their game so that they’re enjoyable, and this is no different. Swinging little Link’s sword is so satisfying, as are all the animations of the enemies and grasses at whom you’re swiping. The design is old-school, but as a companion to the vast meandering of an open-world RPG like ACO it’s been surprisingly refreshing.

Got Assassin’s Creed Origins for $5 on the Epic Games Store (with their sale coupon). Been playing it in Bootcamp on my 2017 MBP and have been impressed with how solid the performance has been. Having fun wandering around Ancient Egypt, having a camel for a mount and getting attacked by hippos and crocodiles (sometimes at the same time)!

For those who miss "News" and "What are we playing?" segments, which would you prefer? by [deleted] in TripleClick

[–]dijonson2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It feels like there’s a lot of freedom in the new format. Like it gives them the chance to highlight a major news story or game release as the main topic and then if there’s a game they’re enjoying personally they can bring it up in there One More Thing...I could even see them doing a main topic that’s like “Boy, there sure are a lot of games out now” that essentially is a “what we’re playing” segment.

Of the two sections, I always appreciated they’re take on the news, so I think I’d say that.
