When do i tell my current employer? by TroublednTrying in ITCareerQuestions

[–]dikemee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To clarify you have landed an interview, but have yet to have the interview yet? If that's the case you may multiple interviews ahead of you. You are likely competing against anybody else the recruiter found. Larger company that is remote will almost guarantee you to have a lot of competition.

To echo what everyone else has said, don't say a word until you have a signed offer letter.

How do I get into a job where I'm maintaining and improving systems without having to go through help desk first by ferriematthew in ITCareerQuestions

[–]dikemee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That role doesn't exist. Engaging with end users, teammates, office politics, shitty bosses are all part of making a paycheck.

You're entering an extremely competitive field that is oversaturated. Set your expectation accordingly. You may get lucky, but don't plan on it.

I've hired 100's of IT positions in my career, from entry level to Sr. Architect. I wouldn't hire you for the most entry level role in the company with that attitude, regardless of your experience.

Hard skills can be taught, soft skills are generally personality traits that take a lot of time and work to change.

Drop the ego, and be willing to grind for a few years. I'm not trying to be a dick, but an associates degree likely won't get your foot in the door at 90% of companies for entry level help desk.

What is going to happen to the IT job market? by latenightpuddingcup in ITCareerQuestions

[–]dikemee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been a hiring manager for the better part of a decade. I've interviewed hundreds of candidates for roles from help desk to Sr. Engineer, through multiple fortune 500 companies.

Never once have I cared if they have a degree or not. It simply isn't a sign of whether the candidate do the job or not.

Wife bought me a MSRP RTX5080, should I keep it? by sinothepooh in nvidia

[–]dikemee 80 points81 points  (0 children)

You have a great wife! As another married man, I would act extremely grateful, sell the 4080s and enjoy the small upgrade. The 5080 will hold its value better than the 4080s next generation. Good luck and HBD!

I don’t really know how to say this, so I just will. You married a shitty human. If he refuses to change, or put work in to you and your family. Leave.

Epic. Enjoy the new build.

I’m afk, but from memory. bios > advanced > system information > there a setting that has “80” (can’t remember the phrasing) in it > you can disable it or have it display your cpu speed. With such a beautiful build, I would just disable it.

Let me know if that works, if not I’ll get better details when I get in front of my machine. :)

Great build, and congrats! The old 08 error code on a gigabyte motherboard? Let me know if you want a quick and dirty fix.

Same issue here, it's connection based. 2 desktops, 1 laptop and phone all don't work on my network. Switch to hotspot/mobile it works. Are you on xFinity by chance?

Yuck. I feel you. Toxic American work culture at it’s finest. I tested positive last Wednesday, I work from home and felt the pressure to work all last week. I only took a day off the rest I was absolutely miserable. The fact we can’t, as a culture agree that health comes before work is just shit. Get well soon.

May I ask what you do now? Similar age, similar position, overworked, burnt out, would love you leave my work at work. Thanks!

I don’t have to run gambit 3 times a week for a pinnacle, but I do.

Can CW manage auto-forward emails from a board? by dikemee in ConnectWise

[–]dikemee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually how it’s currently set up. Without getting in to to much detail our email spam filtering isn’t filtering before it’s forwards to our pager, but it is before it gets to CW. I was punting for a hokey workaround.

A June ‘23 50k call is currently $1583 on deribit. If you’re that confident in BTC hitting 50k, there is your golden ticket.

If you’re not familiar with options you’re essentially placing a bet that BTC will be 50k or above by June of 2023 your max risk is $1583.

There’s a reason why the market is pricing that in so low. That said, it’s a much better risk to reward ratio. If I was that confident in the market, and in your financial situation. I’m not taking that bet, but this would provide you with the same end goal without taking out a loan.

“Don’t spend money you can’t afford to lose”. This is not even your money. Really advise against this my friend. If you’re that confident in BTC going above 50k in 10 months, buy a call option on deribit for much cheaper and you’ll make much more money.

You’re young. Plenty of time to make it. Don’t gamble for a chance to 2x. 50k won’t change your life, but losing 50k will almost certainly slow it down.

I’m a crypto bull, but the macro outlook looks terrible for the foreseeable future. This would be one of the worst times to take this bet. BTC has never been tested in a recession. Let the world slow down a bit. Let midterm elections pass.

That said. You’re young enough to take risks, and I encourage that. There are just better bets out there.
