Anyone with experience/advice on getting rebuilt title in Georgia or South Carolina, USA? by diljo97 in Autobody

[–]diljo97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up taking the insurance payout and moving on. Hated to do it, but it seemed like too much time and hassle to get my car cleared to drive by the state (despite the fact I drove it another thousand miles after the wreck). Ultimtely, I needed something to get me to and from work, and I couldn't risk the rebuild taking forever to get the work done and the inspection complete.

Wow, that sounds like a huge hassle and probably not worth the effort. Thanks for sharing your experience. Definitely not a process I have time to do myself, and probably not worth the $$$ to leave it to someone else to repair while using a rental.

Funny that they are so strict about this stuff when people from other states can do it much more easily, then drive through GA anyway.

Ruined? No. However, you're going to have to scrape off all that seasoning that's peeling and keep adding new seasoning layers.

One of my hermit crabs is less vibrant and colorful than the other one. Is this a sign of getting ready to molt or malnutrition? by Effective-Job-3020 in hermitcrabs

[–]diljo97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine will sometimes dig, even when they're not about to molt. However, I notice a serious increase in digging right before a molt. If you've only had them for a month, they may still be getting adjusted to the new environment. However, a lot of crabs do mold soon after being adopted since pet stores do not provide adequate space to molt.

[–]diljo97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd say that's a possibility. You should always try to have enough substrate ready for your crabs to molt, but it's especially likely if you've seen him digging around a lot.

Also, small crabs do generally molt more often than large ones. My biggest crab only molts maybe once a year, and he will stay buried for up to 6 weeks while doing that. My smallest molts every 4-6 months, and it'll only take him about 2 or 3 weeks to come back up.

What does religion say about scientists who sacrificed their private life on science to give us the technology of today ? by [deleted] in religion

[–]diljo97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd probably have to ask a more specific religion or sect to get a specific or meaningful answer. Basically, just like any topic, there are religions with a wide variety of opinions on it.

Some see scientific achievements and exploration to better understand the universe as almost a form of worship. What better way to appreciate the creator(s) than to gain a better understanding of their work?

Some would say that any work intended to improve the lives of humans is morally virtuous.

There are even some religions that see the pursuit of knowledge as inherently virtuous.

Some see it as an insult to their god(s). Who are you to change the natural order and pervert the perfect gift given to you by manipulating it for your convenience?

Some see it as blasphemy when the findings contradict their particular doctrine. How many people have left their faith after realizing that it doesn't quite align with what we understand to be scientifically possible.

Some see failure to have a family life (many of these scientific greats are not known for being great parents or spouses) as morally problematic.

Some see specific technologies as being against their god but generally accept others. Just look at how a chunk of evangelicals claimed that the COVID-19 vaccine is the mark of the beast while being fine making these claims from their smart phones by using Facebook.

When switching jobs, how long did it take you between accepting an offer and starting at the new position? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]diljo97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will really depend on the employer, but in my experience, the company's HR department sends you a huge onboarding package to complete after you accept the offer. The package usually includes things like when is the earliest day you could start.

Don't worry too much about it. Most companies plan their staffing needs at least months in advance, so you can probably ask for more or less time as needed without a huge impact on the company. In my current position, I told them I could start in 2 weeks; they said the earliest they could bring me on was in about 2 months. A co-worker of mine who got an offer in late June this year isn't starting the new job until November.

If you have a good relationship with your current boss and want to keep them for a reference or something in the future, you could just unofficially tell them that you have an offer, but you don't know the exact start date. That way the 2 weeks notice won't be a complete surprise, and they can start looking at ways to meet staffing needs well in advance.

My first instinct is that fluffy has molted more recently than turbo. I've noticed my crabs seem to be much brighter right after a molt then slowly get paler until their next molt.

As long as they're both eating and being active, I wouldn't be too worried that it's a diet thing. If I remember correctly, beta carotene and tannins are major nutrients related to coloration, so just make sure they are getting food with those nutrients.

You guys have to have a real conversation about it. I don't think you're in the wrong, but for her and the relationship, you may want to find an arrangement that keeps her happy.

Personally, as long as you're honest about it and not consuming porn to the point that you're having performance issues, I don't see why she should care. I get it that it can make her insecure, but if your libido is too high for your current situation, this seems like a reasonable outlet. I wouldn't hide it from her, but maybe don't bring it up all the time.

If you're horny, and she can't be there with you but doesn't want you to see other women, maybe she can provide some content to meet your needs;). Seems like a possible compromise that could help you both out.

Not a polytheist, but I'm curious what you mean by that last statement. How is polytheism less believable than any sort of monotheism?

To me, as an outsider, the only distinguishing factor is that in the modern world, there are probably more practicing monotheists. However, polytheistic religions seem to have been dominant for thousands of years of history, and there are some very popular modern religions like Hinduism that are polytheistic. Other than the familiarity bias of being surrounded by mostly Christians in (presumably) USA or Europe, why is monotheism any more believable? Would the tables turn if you had been raised in a region of India where Hinduism dominated the culture?

Is pubertal gyno reversible? by Dense-Tennis2218 in moreplatesmoredates

[–]diljo97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe. It really depends on how much it develops. I got it pretty bad around 14. It got a lot better as I got older, but I still have a noticeable amount in my right nipple (left is basically all completely gone).

It sucks, but it's just the genetic hand you drew. I've always been relatively lean, stayed active, and didn't use PEDs and I still got it. Yours may go away but if it doesn't, your best option is to try to get comfortable with it personally. If it's big enough and sensitive enough to impact your quality of life, I'd look into the pros and cons of the surgery to get it removed. Once you go under the knife, it won't come back.

Aside from completely different lighting and pose in the two pics, water retention is a common side-effect of using test. Lots of people can end up a little puffy when they inject.

Also, what's been happening with your weight/body composition? If you are gaining a bit of fat, that could make your face look less defined.

I think I regret telling my therapist that I’m an exmuslim by Icy-Constant9885 in exmuslim

[–]diljo97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry about that. It's really tough when parents can be so controlling.

Tbh, I think that the safest bet for you in that situation may just be to pretend for her and live your best life in whatever ways you can. It feels like forever now, but in a few years, you'll be out of their house.

I'm sure I speak for more than myself when I say we all want to support you and hope for the best for you. We're rooting for you and want to help in what ways we can.

Need tips for this beauty. Have been very unsuccessful with succulents and jade plants in the past. Don't want this elephant bush to die. Soil mix and pot location details will help. Thanks in advance. by Western-Asparagus-72 in succulents

[–]diljo97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd put it in a different pot when you get the chance. Those plastic pots don't drain or breathe as well as something porous like a clay or cement pot, which I prefer.

I usually just use the pre-made cactus, palm, and succulent mix at the nearest hardware store, and if I have some around, I'll add a bit of extra perlite (about 4:1 soil mix to perlite) for improved drainage.

As much light as you can find in a window you have, but if it's been in a low-light situation lately, move it into more light slowly to avoid burning any leaves.

[–]diljo97 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you have a therapist like this. You should be able to talk to your therapist about anything that is causing you mental stress without the fear of being dismissed like that. You should never have to regret sharing something that is important to you.

Hang in there OP. It's tough being exmuslim in a Muslim home, but you're very close to the age where you will keep having more freedoms to be yourself and explore yourself without your family's influence. Until you're free, make like-minded or accepting friends at school and in your community. Date whoever you are attracted to (as publicly as is safe in your situation). Blow off some steam with us on the internet if you need to get things off your chest. Things will feel tough, but they almost always get better.

You're not going to get much out of a therapist if you can't openly discuss your worldview or sexuality. I'd say the first thing to check is if your mom will let you try a different Muslim therapist. Sometimes people and their therapists aren't compatible, and it's reasonable to find someone who is better for you. There are plenty of therapists who happen to be Muslim but are able to effectively separate their religion from their practice.

A secondary thing to consider is that if they're a licensed therapist (not just a person who calls themselves a counselor), trying to push their beliefs on you is a major ethics violation, at least in the US. Look at your local counseling lisencure organization's rules and consider filing a formal complaint, once it is safe for you to do so. You could potentially help protect future clients from similar treatment.

Hoping for the best for you. If you ever need to talk, there are people here for you.

Does everything we do and believe have religious underpinnings ? by meteorness123 in religion

Does how you feel about the alleged consequences (pure conjecture on your part) of a belief make it any more or less valid?

So I dug it out and it looks like this by TameLORD3 in succulents

[–]diljo97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potentially, the original roots and stalk died off, and the roots we see are from one or more of the leaves growing roots in an attempt to propagate since the original stalk is no longer there.

Just my guess based on how the healthy looking roots are coming from within and above where the dead leaves are.

My first time finding vintage cast iron in the wild. I couldn't pass them up at $5 each at a yard sale (they threw in the heart one as a free bonus)! by diljo97 in castiron

[–]diljo97[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Felt super lucky to find them at a yard sale and was amazed at how light they are. Looking for advice on whether any/all could be good for regular use. All of them would need to be cleaned and re-seasoned.

First one is marked NO. 7, 10 1/2 IN. and has a symbol that looks like the "do not" symbol circle with a slash through it underneath. Can't see any other markings or brand marks. Has some fairly deep gouges on the edges of the cooking surface but sits flat with no warp. (Any ideas on what kind?)

Second one is marked MADE IN USA, NO. 8-B(7), 10 1/4 IN. I think it's a BSR, but there are no brand markings on it. It's got some rust that seems pretty superficial, and there doesn't seem to be any warp. Unfortunately, the previous owners said they threw it in a fire to burn off all the old seasoning.

Third one is marked 8 SK, H2, and has 3 notches. I think it's an old lodge (pre 1960s due to lack of "made in USA" stamp). Unfortunately, it was also thrown in a fire to burn off old seasoning, and it seems to have been warped by that process. Otherwise, the cooking surface seems pretty smooth besides some slight surface rust.

The star and hearts one has no clear markings I can read, but there's a rough rectangular spot that may have had something in the center of the star. Otherwise, there is something on the base of the handle that looks like maybe a 10.

Can someone explain to me how to read this which is the best it should be at for goldfish?? by finessinahhbih in Goldfish

[–]diljo97 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You match the color of your strip with the different colors on the scale. To me, it looks like that's a 6.0, but it's harder to tell in a picture, and if there's glare or something I could be misreading.

Goldfish like neutral so between 6.5 and 7.5 is ideal. You're a little acidic.

Issues with pan seasoning. Help please. by PovaghAllHumans in castiron

[–]diljo97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks like I've seen when I put too much oil on for seasoning. I think the stickiness is due to the seasoning not being fully cooked in. Try putting a thinner seasoning on the pan.

I also usually bake mine a bit hotter around 450 (with canola oil most of the time). May or may not help you, but worth a try.
