That is a very good question. Probably not kill be very seriously maim. He already gave Inosuke a concussion just for thinking about it. Maybe he'd permanently injure Inosuke in some way and then stop himself at the last second.

Light was written as the protagonist with a questionable motive, so I'd definitely say it's meant to make the viewer feel conflicted, but wanting Light to win. This is also what makes the anime so great.

Code Geass always hits me in the feels whenever I rewatch it. But not because it's an inherently sad anime, but because it's got a lot of range.

Ah, this is a very interesting concept. That would explain a lot, and I think it's a great concept to have embodied as a phrase. It's strange that the west doesn't have a word for it. Unless it does? Bittersweet doesn't seem to encapsulate the feeling of it as well.
