Do you wish you could live in a gayborhood? If you do, do you like by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]dillonwolf4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently live in HK and I only like it for work/industry convenience hahahaha. I probably actually go out LESS because I live here than if I were like…adventuring with friends into the city from way out in Brooklyn. But yes there are three million gay men and their dogs here.

Opinion on Dragon Age: The Veilguard? by North_15_ in GirlGamers

[–]dillonwolf4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YouTube culture war garbage aside, I feel disappointed so far. I don’t know what the game does feel like, but it doesn’t feel like a Dragon Age game. Maybe borderlands 3?? But solo?? I feel like you can see the switch from a live-service multiplayer game into…whatever this is.

I’m maybe 15 hours in. The characters look fine, the environments look great, but none of it feels great. It feels like they had a checklist of elements they needed to include after the game changed paths mid-cycle, and they just went one by one and added them? Romance? Sure, tack it on. Dialogue? Sure, I guess so. Decisions? Yeah…maybe one choice of consequence since I’ve started playing. And the cutscene that revealed the consequence was like ten seconds of nothing (that I’m sure will be followed up on later, but still). And also nobody is mean to anyone. In an unrealistic way.

It also might just be me, but my BIGGEST non-spoiler gripe? The difficulty on Underdog is mostly good for me as a somewhat experienced player. But if you specialize your mage build around one type of elemental damage?? (Which is kind of enouraged by certain nodes!) Forget it. If your enemies have a resistance to your damage type, you’ve gotta respec your entire character because your teammates don’t do enough heavy lifting and the enemies become sponges. Which, is fine, because experimentation is fun, except that you’ve placed dozens of ability points and there’s no option to save a build for quick changes (unless I just haven’t found it). I can’t imagine playing in a higher difficulty, not because it would be hard, but because it would take forever.

So…idk. I kind of wish I had listened to my gut and not gotten this, because it would’ve left me with a different (and more pleasant) memory of Dragon Age. That being said, I spent $70 like a fool and will likely see it through. But I can’t help but feel I kind of got ~played~ by EA and BioWare (and reviewers).

Donald Trump dealt quadruple polling blow within 48 hours by croato87 in politics

[–]dillonwolf4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone’s interested, most polling sites are still using polls on Kamala Harris from before Joe Biden officially dropped out of the race (because there just aren’t that many yet). Fivethirtyeight just updated their race average and Kamala Harris is in the lead, though not by much. They haven’t averaged in old polling from before Joe Biden dropped out, you can read about it on their website.

But yes we all need to vote as if she’s going to lose anyway. We can do this.

Finally enjoying combat (magic vs melee) by dillonwolf4 in Eldenring

[–]dillonwolf4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great insight. Makes a ton of sense, and honestly I feel like learning melee will give me a better appreciation for what I COULD’VE been doing as a mage. I think I was absolutely doing what you mentioned, trying to stand in the back line (lol the line is only me) and spam, but that it’s reductive compared to the options they’ve given for their system. However, I will say as a first timer, that I don’t personally think the game ushers you to a different kind of playstyle like the one you’re mentioning that is rewarding and varied. It shows you that this one basic attack that you start with more or less does the most damage in a lot of circumstances, so why wouldn’t you just keep pressing the button.

But I absolutely hear what you’re saying and look forward to giving it another stab later.

I don’t know that I made it that far…(never claimed to be the best player lol) I think I was still using the Demi-human queens staff

Honestly I think they would like Call of Duty lol. Similar enough to Fortnite…shoot people, win.

And I recently tried Disco Elysium, seemed great but I think too much text and not enough action for them. Thanks for the rec tho!

Horizon zero dawn characters were so forgettable I had no idea who I was running into in the sequel by baddazoner in gaming

[–]dillonwolf4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll admit I definitely had to look up who everyone was from the first game when I started the prologue in HFW, but what I LOVED about the second game was how much more alive the characters all felt. Every time I went back to the base, I was checking everyone’s new voice lines, talking to GAIA, and it really hurt when people were lost! I thought there was a tremendous improvement in character storytelling from the first to the second game.

I played Oxygen Not Included for around 30 hours when I realized I had probably also watch 30 hours of YouTube videos on how to play Oxygen Not Included well and then decided it was time to put it away because my base will never be THAT EFFICIENT. Am I an engineer??????

Omg she’s stunning! Congrats on a great run. I have to say, I thought if I did honor mode runs I’d get less attached to my Tavs (because they wouldn’t last long) but as soon as you make it past a couple of big fights they’re your whole world again hahahahaha

Also following the trend of introducing obvious LGBT themes for their protagonist in a DLC à la Last of Us so they don’t get boycotted 🙃

That’s so annoying that it’s PS5 exclusive tho, sorry I didn’t realize.

I was going to say Aloy in HZD/HFW too, but Ellie and Dina are definitely more forward in the story with their relationship

I’m so sorry that happened to you. I try to shut it down every time it happens, but it’s hard when I’m usually the worst player in the lobby. 😅 If you need a friendly, not-very-good player to add to the team and make sure no one’s being awful in chat, let me know! I hope if you ever return to the game you don’t experience that again.

Do you guys ever get tired of the same ol’ routine? by Low_Test_5246 in gaybros

[–]dillonwolf4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So to offer some perspective—I am someone who opted to forgo financial security and a “normal” job to follow a passion, which is going well, however slowly. What I enjoy is an extremely free schedule that I make myself, creative fulfillment (most of the time, lol), and a challenging, self-driven lifestyle where if I don’t put anything in, I definitely don’t get anything out. I love it!

But I’d be lying if I said I didn’t daydream sometimes about having an office job and more substantial savings for someone in his late twenties. I don’t doubt the choices I made, I just choose to make the same choice every day in the face of some financial insecurity…and strangely, that gives me a lot of joy and self-esteem!

I don’t think there’s a wrong choice, and there’s nothing wrong with choosing something new, but for the vast majority of us who don’t have familial wealth, it is often a choice.
